Those remarkably un-froglike people at Frogster have sent over their latest story trailer for “action” MMO TERA, and by gum it looks pretty, as you can see below. I’ve also added in the most recent in-game footage for good measure, as TERA lands in Europe on 3rd May, and beta sign-ups are now taking place on the site. I suspect it will be hard pressed against the popular choice of Guild Wars 2, but it’s got a lot going for it with genuine in-game collisions, dodging and hit-detection making it quite unlike other MMOs. I’m intrigued to take a look.(more…)

#tera If you're wondering why the graphics update for Land of Dragonrunes never came out, you only have the brutal hands of Tera spokesman and MMA legend Bas Rutten to blame. Well, that and the fact that the game doesn't technically exist. More »

Bluehole's Tera is almost out in North America, set to launch on May 1. From what's been shown so far, its standout feature is combat. Playing as an axe-wielding Berserker class, the style of experience is more like God of War than World of Warcraft, which should be a nice change of pace for MMO fans tired of the restrictive traditional MMO fighting...

If you'd rather avoid playing yet another human-like race in an MMO that only stands out because of horns or eye makeup, Tera's Popori race could be a good choice. Tera's style of play differs from what you may be used to in MMOs like World of Warcraft and Star Wars: The Old Republic. It feels more like an action game than an MMO, which you can read about in our previous coverage of the closed beta test. With a North American release date of May 1, you'll be able to see for yourself soon...

If you want a chance to play Bluehole and En Masse's upcoming action-MMO, pre-ordering Tera will grant you access to upcoming rounds of closed beta testing. The beta tests will run throughout February, March and April, leading to Tera's launch in North America on May 1. You'll also get to participate in a Head Start program that allows you to play over the pre-launch weekend, ideally giving you a chance to get out of the starting areas before they're overrun with new players...

MMO Tera is a bit less massive after the publisher have stated they’ll be blocking IPs from Asia, Africa, Russia and The Middle East from connecting to the North America servers. The ironically named En Masse said in an FAQ: “While we appreciate that there are players in these regions who would enjoy playing on En Masse servers, it’s unfortunate that the vast majority of Internet traffic we see from these regions are from cyber-criminals relating to account theft, gold-farming and other hacking behavior.” Blimey.(more…)

Listen up, kids. There's a very cool MMO on the way called Tera, which uses a responsive, action-based combat system. It's super gorgeous, a lot of fun, and it's finally entering a beta testing phase. TERA is an “action MMO” with a relatively complex political system, which allows players to gain control of resources through democracy or violent monster-bashing. It’s an accepted but little spoken truth that our own Nick Clegg only elevated himself to the position he fails to enjoy today by grinding rats for hours on end. Forget all that though and ask yourself one simple question: do you want the chance to join TERA’s upcoming closed beta? Applications are now open and anyone registering before 11:30 CET, 13th January will have a chance to be one of the first 1,000 entrants. That’s 10:30 in Blightlyland by my reckoning. More passes will be given out as the beta progresses. Europeans, sign up here. Americans here. Video below.

TERA‘s action-combat and overall ludicrous prettiness has caught my attention on occasional, but the way it ties guild quests to an overall political system is really quite something, as you can see in the video below, via PCG. You can rise to power through either a popular vote of actual players, or through the PvP battlegrounds, and once you are in power you can make life easier for people (or not) via your control of various resources such as shops and teleports. To perform actions with these your guild will need to be perform particularly high-end quests, fighting monsters and so forth. It all looks rather satisfying, at least within the constraints of traditional MMO systems. (Eve Online it ain’t.)(more…)

A couple of days ago a friend asked me “what ever happened to that TERA game? It looked pretty.” It certainly did look pretty, and I can see why he lost track of it, because I had too. It wasn’t actually the prettiness that they were touting way back when we first looked at it in February last year, but more the “action combat”. There’s a bit of that illustrated in the second trailer, below, but I’m still not enormously convinced it’s a world away from other MMOs, and this blighter is going to be up against Guild Wars 2, which I don’t envy for it.

Anyway, it is still coming out, in Spring 2012.(more…)

Much-delayed “action MMO” TERA has finally got a Euro release slot, roughly speaking. It’s going to hit in Spring 2012. Frogster’s Daniel Ullrich explained: “By launching TERA in Spring 2012 we ensure that the game will not only live up to expectations, but surpass them. We’ll be unveiling various features at Gamescom and rest assured these are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what players can expect when TERA is released early next year”.

I’m not entirely sure what my expectations for this game are, but if they are surpassed then it’ll be time for a cup of tea. Hey, why not see if you can formulate expectations of your own by watching the game footage that I’ve posted below?(more…)
