The Invizimals series is bringing its reality-augmenting critters back to North America, with portable and console entries due this year. Vita game Invizimals: The Alliance and PS3 companion Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom hit Europe last year. Despite not bringing the series' PSP game stateside, Sony Computer Entertainment America stepped in to ferry the duo over this time around.

Given the Vita's built-in augmented reality features, Invizimals: The Alliance was always a given. The portable game rekindles the series' Pokemon-like unearthing and capturing of monsters, with players using touch and noise to capture their psuedo-real prey.

Meanwhile, PS3 game The Lost Kingdom is the first in the series to shy away from AR, instead dropping players into a colorful 3D action-adventure set in the Invizimals' world. The PS3 game syncs up with its Vita sibling, letting players duke it out in a cross-system battle arena for up to four players, additionally allowing players to transfer items across the two games.

Fans of the three PSP games, including Invizimals: The Lost Tribes, which never made it stateside, will be pleased to hear SCEA's Nick Accordino say there's a "nice chance" of them showing up on PSN.

Publisher Devolver Digital has announced Vlambeer's chaotic 2D dogfighter, Luftrausers, will launch simultaneously on PS Vita, PS3, PC, Mac and Linux later this year. "Hope to have a date soon," the announcement tweet adds.

In Luftrausers, players pilot highly modular planes across more than 100 different missions. With each successful mission, players unlock more parts to greater customize their aerial death machines.

Luftrausers is a sequel to Luftrauser, Vlambeer's free-to-play Flash game. Vlambeer originally planned to launch Luftrausers last year, but a combo of having to work out the deal with Sony for the PS Vita and PS3 ports, on top of ongoing development for Ridiculous Fishing, contributed to Luftrauser's new launch window this year. Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition - whew, long title! - will be swinging and slashing its way across PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 systems on March 25, according to a recent press release from publisher Tecmo Koei. It will be the first Dynasty Warriors game for the PS4.

Complete Edition is a port of Dynasty Warriors 8 plus its stand-alone expansion, Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends, which also has a release date of March 25. Xtreme Legends, like any good expansion, brings new levels, new characters and expanded modes. Five new characters bring the total roster up to 82, which is, technically-speaking, a freaking lot of people to play as.

Already a Dynasty Warriors fan with a head-start on the PS3 version of the game looking to upgrade to the PS4 or Vita version? Good news, everyone! Your Dynasty Warriors 8 save file will transfer across all systems.

Tecmo previously tweeted that the games would be coming in spring 2014, but now you know exactly which date to call in sick be a responsible adult. [Image: Tecmo Koei]

Multiplatform pinball sim The Pinball Arcade currently features a lineup of over 40 recreated machines from decades past, but developer FarSight Studios could soon tap veteran industry talent for all-new pinball table designs, according to a BBC News report.

"We have talked to some of the famous pinball designers from the past, and they are definitely interested," FarSight's VP of product development Bobby King told BBC News. "Those cost considerations [of the past] are irrelevant when machines are designed only to be built in the virtual world, so imagine what these guys could do if they were given carte blanche."

King additionally discussed the possibility of real-world pinball machines being built from new digital table designs, if they prove successful. Pinball machine manufacturer Stern has an established relationship with developer FarSight, and a handful of its recent tables appear digitally in The Pinball Arcade.

Developer Silverball Studios previously announced that it would work with The Addams Family and Twilight Zone table designer Pat Lawlor to produce a new digital table design, but plans fell through when the team's Pro Pinball project failed to meet its Kickstarter funding goal. FarSight recently extended its license to produce digital tables based on classic Williams and Bally designs, revealing that Black Knight 2000 and Who Dunnit are next in line for conversion. Major changes are afoot at Sony, after the Japanese electronics giant announced plans to sell its Vaio PC business and reform its TV arm. As a result, Sony will layoff 5,000 employees over the next year or so, including 1,500 in Japan and 3,500 overseas. Sony was projecting a fiscal year net profit of 30 billion yen converting to $295 million, a figure already adjusted down from previous forecasts. Following the restructuring, Sony expects to post a fiscal year net loss of 110 billion yen, converting to $1.08 billion.

Sony's announcement comes as the company posted a strong Q3 net profit of $257 million, boosted by the launch of the PlayStation 4. The new console contributed to the company's net sales of just under $23 billion, with sales in the PlayStation department rising year-on-year by 64.6 percent, or 33 percent when accounting for exchange rate fluctuations. As revealed last month, Sony placed 4.2 million PS4s in the hands of consumers in 2013, and the console is well on course to meets its fiscal targets.

However, scrutiny will center around the decisions to exit the PC industry and make the TV business its own subsidiary. Sony targeted both areas for a return to profit this fiscal year, which ends March 31, but both will come up short. That means an end for the PC business, with an agreement in place to sell it under the Vaio brand to Japanese Industry Partners. Sony is instead turning its focus to the mobile sector, and smartphone and tablet products. As for the TV business, Sony's newly formed subsidiary is to focus on high-end models and dominating the 4K market.

In addition to the 5,000 layoffs, 90 billion yen (converting to around $886 million) is being allocated in restructuring expenses over the next year or so. Sony's restructuring follows the overhaul announced nearly two years ago, which resulted in 10,000 employees losing their jobs. As with those measures, Sony stated the decisions it's making today will lead to long-term cost reductions, estimated to be 100 billion yen annually, around $986 million.

Seth Gordon, the man behind The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, is the latest director in talks to helm the Uncharted movie. Deadline reported on Tuesday that production company Arad/Atlas Entertainment brought Gordon on to direct a new script from David Guggenheim.

Gordon has three non-documentary films to his credit, none of which are action films in the vein of Uncharted. Horrible Bosses was well-received enough to earn a sequel, but Four Christmases and last year's Identity Thief sport Rotten Tomatoes ratings of 19 percent and 25 percent, respectively. Guggenheim's most recent credits include Safe House, the Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington flop, and Stolen, the Nicholas Cage-fueled Taken clone.

The Uncharted movie has had strong talent attached in the past. David O. Russell, the man behind Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, signed on to direct a version starring his regular collaborator Mark Wahlberg back in 2010, but abandoned the movie by 2011. In the years since, the film's hopped between multiple writers and directors. Neil Burger, director of Bradley Cooper thriller Limitless, took over then dropped out before scriptwriting duties shuffled to Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, the writing duo behind National Treasure.

Producer Avi Arad has plans for more than one video game adaptation: He is also working with Kojima Productions on a Metal Gear Solid movie.

Since there's something like 60 games on sale this month over at PSN Europe, we'll try our best to steer you towards the highlights. For starers, The Last of Us has already been at this price, but the Joystiq Best of 2013 is worth a re-mention at £20/30 euros.

PS4 owners can choose to expand their libraries with Tiny Brains and Knack, the former down to £8.49/10 euros, the latter £35.59/40.19 euros. Meanwhile on PS3, the only just-out Gran Turismo 6 shifts gears to £30/40 euros, and the similarly young (sort of) Soulcalibur 2 HD Online is £8/10 euros.

Resident Evil lovers will be tempted by a bundle of the first three games for £8/10 euros, while Telltale fans may plump for a season pass for The Wolf Among Us - that gets you all five episodes for £10.39/13 euros. Finally, the Vita is on the discount dancefloor too, kicking its style with Tearaway from the team behind LittleBigPlanet. The papercraft platformer is down to just £13/17 euros.

If you're a PS Plus member, you'll get 10 percent off all of the deals above and most of the ones in the February sale. For the full list of reductions, head over to the PS Blog. [Image: Sony Computer Entertainment]

Outlast is out on PS4 in today's PSN update, alongside PS3 games Dustforce, Castlestorm Complete Edition, Adam's Venture Chronicles, Truck Racer and Furmins + Stardrone Extreme Bundle. Outlast, you'll remember (unless you blocked the memory to save your psyche), is the horror game from Red Barrels that places players inside a corrupt insane asylum with the broader task of discovering why everyone there is so grossly homicidal. It's $20 on PSN, but free for Plus members.

A bevy of PS3 pre-orders are live now as well: Dark Souls 2, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles and Call of Duty: Ghosts' first DLC pack, Onslaught. That last one is pre-order-able for PS4 as well. Vita gets Dustforce, King Oddball and Surge Deluxe today. See the full lineup on the PlayStation Blog. [Image: Red Barrels]

Fairy tales are stories for children, and as such are full of magic, fantasy, and wonderment. What we tend to forget, however, is that murderers lie in wait for the princesses, and monsters lurk in the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment to destroy happiness. Episode 2 of The Wolf Among Us, "Smoke and Mirrors" reminds us that our fables are full of twisted characters who prey on the innocence or desperation of others. It's harsh and bleak and will make you uncomfortable, even when you're not examining the corpse.

As a quick reminder, the characters of Wolf Among Us are Fables, the actual characters from our storybooks, who've fled their Homelands and taken up residence in a section of New York called Fabletown. You play as Bigby Wolf, sheriff of Fabletown, who is continuing his investigation into the murder of Episode 1, "Faith," finding himself with another dead body and even more questions. Between his responsibilities as sheriff, his checkered past, and his own less-than-stellar interpersonal skills, Bigby's constantly being pulled in several different directions at once - is he the wolf, or the lawman, the reasonable symbol of justice, or a thug? He is all of these things, and more, and the events of "Smoke and Mirrors" reveal his complexities. He's a marvelous character to role-play, never quite one thing or the other, and he provides the anchor that the story needs to keep from spinning off into the darkness.

Ethan: Meteor Hunter is a tricky PS3 and PC platformer with time-stopping mechanics, and it was made by the self-described "bastards" at Seaven Studio. It was only in December the French team was lamenting some woeful sales numbers, so it's good to see it's persevering by bringing the game to Vita sometime "soon," in addition to Steam on February 7.

Seaven credits Reddit with getting the game past Greenlight, after users there backed it in the wake of the dispiriting sales. As for the Vita version, one change-up is that players can use Ethan's telekinetic powers to move objects in stasis using the front and rear touchscreens, a feature that Seaven's Olivier Penot said "just made sense."

No word on a release date for Vita, but Seaven is nonetheless ramping up the platformer's second coming with plenty of promos. PS3 users can try out a demo this week, with that version on sale at $7, or $5 for PS Plus users - the game will be Cross-Buy, so getting it on PS3 will unlock the Vita version when it arrives. Meanwhile, the Steam version will be 20 percent off at launch, coming in at $8. [Image: Seaven Studio]

The Pinball Arcade, FarSight Games' digital pinball hall dedicated to creating counterparts of real-life pinball machines, will add more Williams and Bally tables to its future lineup. The associated Facebook post states that a renewed license with Williams and Bally will allow FarSight to add more tables from the classic pinball manufacturer's archives, starting with Black Knight 2000. An estimated release date was not offered.

Pinball Arcade has reached a lot of platforms, but its absence from Xbox Live Arcade is explained in the FAQ on the game's site, noting that unavailability on the platform stems from "legal problems with Microsoft and [publisher] Crave and we must wait for legal resolution while we consider other options." A forum post from January, spotted by Polygon, notes FarSight's plans to "re-launch" Pinball Arcade on XBLA. This post also shares a Linux version on Steam in 2014 as well as plans to submit a Wii U version to Nintendo in early 2014.

FarSight shared hopes to continue expanding Pinball Arcade's lineup for as long as sales "stay strong!" Hopefully the renewed license doesn't make FarSight think they're the Bally king; that crown's already been claimed.

A recent episode of the PlayStation Blogcast announced that Trapt will make its way to PlayStation 3 and Vita as a PS2 Classic. Despite Trapt's absence of clever space battle tactics, it does involve plotting the deaths of enemies by ensnaring them in traps.

In Trapt, Princess Allura is framed as the murderer of her father, King Olaf, and is then accused by her stepmother Catalina. Not keen on awaiting her trial, Allura escapes to a forest and progresses through stages by eliminating enemies with traps on the walls, floors and ceilings of rooms. Money earned from outwitting enemies can be spent on new traps or keys to access locked portions of stages. Trapt also has multiple endings, leaving the fate of the game's cast up to the player to influence.

A price for Trapt was not suggested, but that doesn't have to stop you from practicing making traps out of household items! [Image: PlayStation Store]

It's memories, robberies, and underground monstrosities for PlayStation Plus subscribers next month, with February's line-up featuring Remember Me, Payday 2, and Metro: Last Light. As for Vita, it's the cutesy karts of Modnation Racers: Road Trip, and the less cutesy cross-beats of Street Fighter X Tekken.

No, Plus hasn't forgotten about the PS4, silly billy. Sony's newest console is getting asylum horror Outlast on Plus next month, but we already knew that. The real question is when: PlayStation UK's website says next week on February 5, so going by PSN traditions that'd mean a February 4 showing in North America. We'll find out for sure soon enough.

Looking at the PS3 games specifically, we'd recommend checking out the "suffocating despair" of shooter sequel Metro: Last Light - no really, it's fun! - and the heist-em-up capers of Payday 2 if you haven't already have. As for Remember Me? Well, if you like neo-action games full of neo-jargon, then sure - but maybe read Ludwig's neo-review first.

Arc System Works' latest hyperkinetic fighter, BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma, is coming to Sony's Vita handheld as well as the PlayStation 3, according to Japan's Dengeki PlayStation magazine.

The magazine's report (helpfully translated by Siliconera), claims that the handheld incarnation of BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma will feature DLC cross-buy functionality with the PS3 game as well as the updates planned for the arcade version of the fighter. Siliconera also notes that "beach events" are being added to the game, though it's unclear what exactly they might entail.

Lacking from the Siliconera report is any word on when BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma might hit the Vita. However, a Gematsu translation of the same Dengeki PlayStation article states that the game will make its Japanese debut on April 24, and that it will feature a price tag of 5,800 yen (about $58). No Western release dates have yet been revealed.

A flash sale is a sudden, unexpected dealapalooza - not a sale on light bulbs or other products that illuminate. Starting now and lasting until 9pm ET on Friday, January 31, this PSN flash sale will serve up some pretty tempting discounts on games for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita.

Killzone: Shadow Fall and Knack are both down to $42, while Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition is $35 and Contrast is down to $7.50 on both PS4 and PS3. And speaking of PS3, you can grab Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Gran Turismo 6 and Madden NFL 25 for $42 each. The PS Vita version of FIFA 13 is down to $14. Unfortunately, PS Plus subscribers won't find an added discount on top of these sale prices.

The full list of what's on sale can be seen over on the PlayStation Blog. We'd suggest checking out the PS Blog's list before booting up your console as there isn't a dedicated hub for this sale in the PlayStation Store, so you'll need to track down each game individually.

Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians, the tactical RPG from Level-5 and Square Enix veteran Yasumi Matsuno, will feature the character artwork of Akihiko Yoshida. The news comes from an update on the project's Kickstarter page, which revealed an excerpt of the game's story as well.

Yoshida departed Square Enix in December after an 18-year stint during which he provided art and character designs for games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story alongside Matsuno, as well as Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy XII and Bravely Default. Unsung Story is seeking $600,000 on Kickstarter by February 14 in order to continue development. With 16 days left to hit its goal, more than 10,000 people have pitched in $438,947 to the project, which has multiple $1 million-plus stretch goals to reach platforms like Vita, PS4 and 3DS.

It would appear Sony is sending out invites for its PlayStation Now closed beta. One such invite was received by NeoGAF user tokyostomp, and IGN also claims to have received another, separate invite. Both invites recommend hard-wiring your PS3 and a 5mbps-or-greater internet connection.

PlayStation Now is Sony's premium games streaming service designed to serve up older PlayStation games on PS3, PS4, PS Vita and other internet-enabled devices. The service will allow users to rent individual games or pay a subscription fee.

PS3 is the first system to receive the beta, though Sony hasn't said how long it'll take for the beta to surface on PS4 and PS Vita. An official launch for PlayStation Now is planned for this summer.
