Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, a PlayStation 3 Japanese role playing game developed by Compile Heart and Idea Factory, is making the leap to Sony's Vita handheld as Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth 1.

Though this should be welcome news to fans of the original game, Dengeki Online offers no further information on Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth 1, nor any word on when it might make its Vita debut. For that matter, it remains unknown whether Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth 1 will receive an English-language translation, though the series' cult popularity in America (and especially Europe) makes this a likely outcome.

Hey, everyone. Ryan Graff here, XSEED’s newest editor, writer, fetch-quester, and occasional dungeon master.

Ever notice how often JRPG heroes land in jail? It’s like a rule; the heroes can mow down any number of guards or soldiers (or monsters, or ancient cosmic horrors), but if anyone ever yells, “You’re under arrest!” or “Take them away!” or even just “Freeze!”, then the heroes have to drop their weapons and assume the position. Of course, they almost never stay in jail for long.

Usually, someone lets them out, or they find a secret passage, or they overpower their one inept guard, and then it’s just a short walk to the box with all their stuff in it, if the guards even took their stuff in the first place. Of course, you couldn’t have a whole RPG where the heroes stay in prison… or could you? And if so, what would it be like?

9844106305_5e8ab0881e_o.jpg

Vita owners can find out on October 15th, when Valhalla Knights 3, a game that takes that question and runs with it, comes out on both retail shelves and PlayStation Store. The whole action-RPG is set in a medieval prison called Carceron, a converted fortress surrounded by war-torn wildlands.

Prisoners roam the halls, grounds, and dungeons at will, with the guards walled off and watching from out of sight. Within the prison, the inmates run their own society, complete with shops, guilds, and… other establishments we’ll get to later. Ruling the prisoners are the Families — organized crime syndicates — each with their own laws and territory. Above them all is the Emperor, an infamous, warmongering tyrant. He believes that the prison holds a legendary treasure, one so priceless that he’s already torn down kingdoms in search of it.

The main character’s name, gender, appearance, voice, race, and job class are all up to you, with job classes ranging from traditional Fighters, Mages, and Priests, to more distinctive classes such as Ninja, Samurai, and Amazon. As a veteran from the losing side of the Emperor’s war, you’ve been forced into servitude by a magical curse called the Mark of Death. Your task is to infiltrate the prison — disguised as a newly arrived prisoner, aka “fresh meat” — and find the treasure before the Emperor gets there himself.

To do that, you’ll need to get in good with the prison’s most powerful Families, by carrying out their dirty work in the form of quests and favors. Build a reputation, and ordinary prisoners will ask for your help, too — sometimes to find a lost heirloom or clear out monsters, other times to kill someone who might not even know why.

9844187103_f221197192_n.jpg9844130876_6696a7502c_n.jpg

What helps Valhalla Knights 3 stand out is its harsh tone. Every facet of the game, from its mission structure to its steep difficulty and lack of an autosave (Save often!), reminds you that you’re trapped in a brutal system, under constant watch, forced to kill or be killed. You’ll carry out orders to hunt down your fellow prisoners whether they deserve it or not, and even when they do, they still have loved ones who’ll miss them.

Most of the time, you’ll have no choice — you’re under the Mark of Death from the start, and the Emperor can kill you with a thought if you disobey him — but is that enough of an excuse? Is even your life worth doing what you’re forced to do? Valhalla Knights 3 makes you question that, and if you’re into moral discussions, it’s worth playing for that alone.

After hours, you can soothe your guilty conscience by visiting the prison’s Light District. Carceron is co-ed, and some of its ladies are gainfully employed in the District’s classy guilds and shops. Find a girl you like, make sure she isn’t spoken for, frequent her business, get to know her, and bring her favorite gifts — and she just might help you find a brief escape from the prison’s harsh reality. Bond with her closely enough, and she’ll even follow you into battle. And it goes both ways, too; you can romance and recruit characters of both genders, regardless of your own.

9844107325_46c72b1cd0_z.jpg

Speaking of recruits, the gameplay revolves around party-vs-party brawls. No prisoner survives alone for long, and so as you go, you’ll be able to join with NPC prisoners to form your own clan. You’ll lead up to seven characters at a time, almost all of them customizable, into battle against enemy clans and monster packs. The 7-on-7 battles unfold in real time, with the player able to swap characters on the fly and issue group commands from anywhere on the field.

Each clan member also has his or her own personality, which affects their behavior in battle — so you might not want to make the team hothead your healer. You can take your party online, too, and fight other players’ parties in arena battles. (The North American version adds network play and leaderboards on top of the original Japanese version’s ad hoc play.)

As much as I love traditional JRPGs, it’s nice to see one do something different every now and again. I like Valhalla Knights 3 because it combines an interesting setting and atmosphere with the kind of tough difficulty I grew up with. As I write this, we’re just about set to launch in North America on October 15th on both retail shelves and PlayStation Store, for $39.99.

Come October 8, Team 17's heavily-armed annelids will be making the leap to Sony's Vita handheld in Worms Revolution Extreme.

Like its predecessors, Worms Revolution Extreme focuses on teams of worms attempting to kill each other in ludicrously over the top, turn-based fashion. The new Vita game offers players 72 single player stages which the PlayStation.blog describes as a "mixture of missions and puzzles." Online multiplayer is also included for one to four players, and includes Deathmatch, Classic and Forts game modes, alongside all the options menus necessary to create your own, customized multiplayer game type.

New to the series is the Treasure Mode which allows players to unlock special items by trading data between Worms Revolution Extreme and the PlayStation 3's Worms Revolution. Game saves will also carry across these two versions, though that utility only goes so far given that the PlayStation 3 game has far less singleplayer content than its handheld counterpart.

When Worms Revolution Extreme makes its Vita debut on October 8 it will feature a $15 price tag, and be available for download from the PlayStation Network Store.

Hi PlayStation.Blog readers! It’s been two months since we revealed we’d be bringing Worms Revolution Extreme to PS Vita — our first Worms game to hit this awesome mobile platform.

We’ve been inundated with eager fan requests of when the pocket, turn-based strategy will arrive on PlayStation Store. We’re really excited to share with you that Worms Revolution Extreme will be available to download for your PS Vita via PSN on October 8th, for just $14.99.

9839534774_45aab450b4_z.jpg

Worms Revolution Extreme features an extensive single-player campaign spanning 72 levels in total, which are a mixture of missions and puzzles. Levels are set across seven different environmental themes, including Sewer, Farmyard, Spooky, Beach, Mars, Funfair, and Medieval!

Have you nailed the single player and think you’re ready to take on other players? You’ll be glad to know that there’s local and online multiplayer battles for up to four players! Choose from three different game modes: Deathmatch, Forts, or Classic, and either predefined or customized game settings.

New Treasure Mode! This all-new, cross-gifting mode enables you to link up with your friends who have a PS3 (or vice versa). You can help each other unlock 10 special gifts using a lock and key system. Meet the requirements in either offline versus or online battles to receive a key and connect to a friend’s PS3 with the corresponding chest to unlock the treasure! What will you unlock?

9839575266_8046e6e53d_n.jpg9839642023_6270736032_n.jpg

We’ve also utilized PS Vita’s touch controls and added in the ability to use the front touch screen to select items and pan/zoom the camera. You can also enable the rear touch pad to aim your weapons.

Worms Revolution Extreme lets you keep your worms mobile with cross-save functionality. Carry your PS3 save game progress over to your PlayStation Vita, or vice versa. Just reached a vital part in the campaign on PS3? Bring it to PS Vita so you can continue your quest on the bus/tube/train, and keep Don Keystone by your side!

Oh, and if you don’t already have Worms Revolution for PS3, it’s currently available with a sweet 50% discount for PS Plus members! But only until October 8th.

We hope you’ll all enjoy keeping your army of worms mobile, and we’ll hopefully see some of you in online battles soon. May the best worm win!

Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut isn't just a port of the 2012 survival horror game for PC and Mac - it's a completely revamped experience with new locations, items, music, trophies and dialogue, and two brand new endings, among many other updates. It's out today as a Cross Buy, Cross Play title for PS3 and Vita, for $13.

Lone Survivor is Jasper Byrne's psychological survival adventure game that allows players to choose the method of their madness: Shoot everything that goes bump in the dark or sneak around quietly to escape the ravaged city; stay healthy with food or pills; seek out other survivors or go it alone. The Director's Cut will launch on PC and Mac, via Steam and the game's store, as soon as Byrne completes the port.

"It will be out as soon as I can physically do it," Byrne says. "It will take time as it's not a simple port, but it is my next priority and I will have more news about this soon."

The updates in the 'Legacy Edition' of FIFA 14 include new kits and rosters, but not anything to do with gameplay, according to a Nintendo press release. Although Nintendo's details are noted for the 3DS version, EA is also releasing the Legacy Edition on Vita, PSP, and PS2, indicating the same lack of update on those platforms. EA previously confirmed to Pocket Gamer that FIFA 14 on Vita is a "reskin" (Pocket Gamer's words) of FIFA 13.

This story is itself a reskin of a previous story; FIFA 13 on Vita was a similarly limited update to FIFA Football, as was FIFA 13 to FIFA 12 on the Wii. In short, EA has plenty of previous experience in this particular area.

FIFA 14 hits North America tomorrow, and Europe on Friday, September 27. Despite the lack of gameplay additions, Nintendo is charging a full retail price of £40 (around $65) for the eShop version. If you feel that's worth it for new names and shirts, please enjoy.

If you aren’t much of a soccer fan, fear not — you can always take a giant battle mech out for a spin. Armored Core: Verdict Day ushers in tons of new content for Armored Core fans, including 90 new missions, more than 150 customizable unit parts, and improved online matchmaking. Those of you that need just a taste of dystopian sci-fi action, look no further.

Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut will brave the dark on the Vita and PS3 on September 24, the PlayStation Blog announced on Friday. The Director's Cut will include "20 new items, new endings, and new game locations," as well as a tweaked lighting system and support for touch on the Vita. It will also be Cross Buy and Cross Save compatible, meaning you can scare yourself silly wherever you'd like.

Lone Survivor follows a masked protagonist's attempt at escaping a disease-ridden city. The game supports different styles of play, allowing for reserved sneaking or the guns-blazing approach, assuming enough bullets can be found for it. Proper character management plays a role as well - the right amount of rest and food can be supplemented with drugs, but fudging up any one element too severely risks the character's well-being, including his mental health.

Hey everyone, Rob here, representing the fine men and women of Curve studios in London. I’m very happy to announce that Lone Survivor will be out this coming Tuesday, the 24th of September.

Lone Survivor was originally released for the PC last year by indie developer Jasper Byrne. After eight months of work with Jasper on the PS3 and PS Vita versions, we’re very happy to say that we’ve created the definitive version of this game.

9842347315_ac68c6d1e1_n.jpg9842324294_6455f40654_n.jpg

Jasper describes the game as a “Psychological Survival Adventure.” It has all the hallmarks of classic survival horror games — high on atmosphere and low on available sources of ammunition. Players can choose to use stealth or firepower to deal with the monsters in Lone Survivor. Depending on player choices, the game can play out very differently, with many optional scenes and different endings.

For the PlayStation version, we started with simple upgrades, like adding touch support on Vita and improving the lighting system… and things spiralled from there! We’ve added over twenty new items, new endings, and new game locations. All of them have been designed by Jasper, and all of them are made to expand on the original game seamlessly.

If you’ve never played Lone Survivor, you can be sure you’re getting the absolute best version of the game. And if you did play the original, you’ll find the Director’s Cut edition to be a very different experience.

Lone Survivor will be a Cross Buy and Cross Save title, and PlayStation Plus subscribers can look forward to a launch discount when the game makes its PlayStation debut this Tuesday.

Originally announced way back in June, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z will bring big hair and even bigger bosses to saiya-jin worldwide in early 2014, producer Kunio Hashimoto revealed during a pre-TGS showcase at Namco Bandai HQ in Shinagawa, Tokyo.

The game's pre-order bonuses and a special Day One edition were also unveiled at the event. Folks that purchase the Day One edition will receive a code to download a special Naruto Uzumaki costume for Goku, which not only gives him a totally sweet headband, but also changes his run and attack animations to mirror those of Naruto Shippuden's titular character. Meanwhile, pre-orders placed at participating retailers include one of two bonus characters: Super Vegito or Super Saiyan Bardock.

Battle of Z is slated to launch on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Vita, although the Vita version will only be available through PSN in North America. Additionally, Vita fighters will have to make due with one voice-over language or the other - English in North America and Japanese in Europe - whereas both options are available on the console versions.
