Zombie has been getting a lot of questions about when the next patch hits for the Blacklight: Retribution PS4 beta, and what will be in it. We’re happy to announce that the first content patch for Blacklight: Retribution on PS4 will go live today, Thursday February 27th. This patch includes too many things to list here, so we’ll stick to the really, really good stuff – the first of which is the introduction of our cooperative game mode: Onslaught!

Onslaught Game Mode

Onslaught pits four Blacklight Agents against an endless horde of infected. Players will have to strategize and cooperate when building their loadouts in order to complete the challenges of Onslaught as a team.

Each wave and enemy type will force you to adapt as the threat changes. If you bank too heavily on fortifying one area, you might find yourself overrun. But if you remain too light and mobile, you may not have the heavy firepower you need to punch through what comes next. Rely on your wits and gear to see you through it. Those who find a way to succeed will be rewarded for their efforts!

New Multiplayer Maps!

Decay and Metro are both included for you to play on!

Metro is set in an abandoned subway station long since taken over by squatters. Players will face fierce firefights in the narrow corridors. Only teams who find a way to exploit open avenues of attack can succeed here. Watch your flanks, and make sure you know which way the threat is coming.

Decay is a slum fortress set deep in the worst and most rundown area of the city. Threats will come from above and below in this rat warren. Teams will need to stay sharp as they move together and watch the roof tops and ruined buildings. Keep your eyes peeled for ambushes in the shadows, and don’t get pinned down.

Private Matches

We’ve also introduced private servers to Blacklight: Retribution PS4. With these, you can set up matches for just you and your friend so you can play the way you want, with who you want. Sometimes you just need to get away from the mayhem of public matches and enjoy a more gentrified experience with your friends.

Matchmaking Improvements

Zombie’s number one priority during this patch has been to make it easy for you to find a fun game of Blacklight to play. This includes matching itself, as well as host migration and host selection. We’ve also added a lot of tools that will let us further tune this moving forward.

Game Optimizations

Our beta players have been exceptionally helpful. You’ve let us know about issues you’ve run into, and it’s helped the team target areas for improvement. With this patch, you’ll notice improved frame rates, faster loads, and a smoother experience overall. Thank you all for playing the Blacklight: Retribution beta on PS4!

Greetings PlayStation Blog. The last couple months have been amazing for Zombie Studios, and bringing Blacklight: Retribution to the PlayStation 4 makes it even more exciting. Before E3 we were contacted by Sony representatives who wanted to come to our offices and interview us for Conversations with Creators. After getting answers to a few questions and learning about the other groups involved, we were thrilled and humbled to be included.

If you’ve been following our progress then you know we’ve had an awesome first half of the year (especially with our new coffee machine). You know that we’d been working to get Blacklight: Retribution ready for E3 and, after attending and having thousands of people play it, we’re happy to report all those long nights were worth it.

We still remember when our PlayStation 4 development kits arrived and the excitement it created within the office. Being involved with a platform launch is a special badge of honor, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it. Our goal with Blacklight: Retribution is to make the best free-to-play first person shooter, and the PlayStation 4 is allowing us to do just that.

As we get closer to launch, keep your eyes out for future updates about Blacklight: Retribution on the PlayStation.Blog, and for the latest news on Blacklight: Retribution and Daylight, be sure to check out our Zombie Studios page on Facebook and follow us on Twitter so you never miss an update.

Summer is upon us and another E3 is here! Even with the unusually sunny skies here in Seattle the last couple months, we here at Zombie Studios have been hard at work on getting Blacklight: Retribution ready to be playable on the show floor at E3 2013.

When we announced Blacklight: Retribution on PS4 a couple months ago, we knew we had to be on the E3 show floor. We instantly set a goal to get the game running and be ready for E3. After a number of long weeks, lots of dinners in the office, and a new coffee machine, we are thrilled to have Blacklight: Retribution playable for everyone in attendance.

For those unfamiliar with Blacklight: Retribution, it’s an action-packed free-to-play first-person shooter that allows you to customize your character in millions of ways. You can change every aspect of your weapon from the barrel, scope, muzzle, and receiver. Want to make your character feel like your character? Alter them anyway you want, swapping out everything from individual pieces of armor to their accessories to cosmetic items that show your elite status.

Customizing your loadout also changes the gameplay and what items you have access to during a match. Perhaps you want to deploy a hardsuit – our huge mech with a chaingun and plasma rifle attached to its arms. Or, for those who want to give a bit of sass, how about a custom taunt? In Blacklight: Retribution we let you control how you want to look, play, and show off.

PC shooter Blacklight: Retribution is coming to the PS4. It was released in 2012 and ran on Unreal Engine 3, which may explain why the only way you could tell this was footage from a PS4 game is because I just told you it was from a PS4 game. On the bright side, Blacklight: Retribution is a pretty good shooter, and it's free-to-play to boot. It'll be out on PS4 by the end of the year.

Greetings PlayStation.Blog! Zombie Studios is excited to announce that Blacklight: Retribution will be coming to the PlayStation 4.

One year and over two million players since its launch, Blacklight: Retribution has been available on PC, but from the start of development Zombie Studios has always wanted Blacklight: Retribution to be available on PlayStation. Today, we can officially say it is coming to PS4! Blacklight: Retribution is a fast-paced, free-to-play online, multiplayer game that takes place in the near future and allows players to customize their characters and weapons in countless ways.. There are millions of permutations!

Once on the battlefield you can enable Hyper Reality Visor (HRV) technology to see through the entire battlefield, find your enemies and coordinate attacks with your teammates. Need more firepower? Run over to a weapon depot and refill on health or ammunition, or select a Hard Suit and deploy it from space. Hardsuits are a human-driven mech built for dealing death to your opponents, and employ either the railgun or minigun to assure your victory.

From the urban war zone of Deadlock, to operational training facility of Helodeck, Blacklight: Retribution includes 10 maps with nine game modes, including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Domination, Netwar, Kill Confirmed, and Onslaught our co-op survival mode.

We are thrilled to be bringing Blacklight: Retribution to PS4. Watch the announcement trailer above, and for more information be sure to check out http://www.playblrps4.com or http://www.zombie.com for the latest information and follow us on Twitter.

Imagine if I were to write a [CENSORED] where you couldn’t understand [CENSORED] that was going [CENSORED] because [CENSORED] bars were everywhere for no apparent [CENSORED]. Wouldn’t that be [CENSORED]? And yet, that’s exactly what the latest trailer of Blacklight [CENSORED] Zombie Studios’ Special Forces: Team X does, probably because [CENSORED]. It’s a weird choice, to say [CENSORED]. Watch the parts of it that are actually visible after the [CENSORED]. Break. Break is what I said there. Gosh, these things are annoying.

Blacklight: Retribution is a bit like a surprise birthday party. For the longest time, I thought nothing of it and went on with my daily business. Then, one day, it crept into my home, turned out the lights, and shouted “SURPRISE!” so loud that I dropped my groceries and grabbed a lamp to brandish in a threatening fashion. I continue to be shocked by how enjoyable Zombie Studios’ follow-up to the rather uninspired Tango Down is, though. Certainly, it’s got roots in traditional multiplayer weapons, upgrades, and other such standbys, but X-ray vision’s a game-changer, and everything feels great. And now, another pleasant surprise: the tank-centric siege mode.

Zombie Studios recently announced that Blacklight: Retribution is heading to Valve's Steam platform. The free-to-play shooter, a sequel to Blacklight: Tango Down, has been available for months via Zombie Studios' site.

The game will support Steam achievements and stats, and some in-game items will be created specifically for Steam users. No (re)release date has been announced, but we have an idea of what the price will be.

Zombie Studios' free-to-play sequel to Blacklight, called Blacklight: Retribution, has gotten itself an open beta date, which means that the game will essentially be ready to party. Feburary 27 is the date in question -- that's the point when the closed beta (which started up last year) will end, player information will be wiped, and the game will start anew for good.

Additionally, the open beta will bring new content with three new maps and custom Heroes to play with, and the Data Node system (which allows users to upgrade and specialize certain pieces of gear) will go live. If you weren't able to get in on any of our many beta keys for the game, then mark your calendar for February 27.

Another game that’s gone through the retail meat grinder and come out as a tasty free-to-play sausage is Blacklight: Retribution. I’ve heard good things about Zombie Studio’s multiplayer FPS, but I’ve been kept from the abattoir by a big sign that said “Closed: BETA!” Aside from the questionable typography, it kept me at arm’s length. Well now we get to see how the gaming sausage is made as Blacklight: Retribution is going “Open: BETA!” on February the 27th. Let’s have a peek at how the game’s looking, via the magic of Flash-based video.(more…)

The signup for Blacklight: Retribution‘s closed beta is ongoing and another trailer has emerged for your viewing pleasure. It shows off some shooting, some explosions, some vehicles and a mech with strangely chubby legs. But don’t take my word for it – see below and attempt to spot all those things for yourself! Perhaps make some form of checklist. That way the trailer is a game in itself.

Blacklight Retribution is a strange name for a game. Is it about some creepy serial killer who was caught when his semen showed up in a victim’s basement under the investigator’s blacklight, and now – having escaped from prison – he plans to destroy every last ultraviolet bulb in the world? No – insanely it is not. It is in fact the sequel to Blacklight: Tango Down, the futuristic shooter that didn’t warm our cockles. But interestingly, this one is to be free-to-play – the buzzphrase of today. Perfect World, publishers of half of the free things in the universe, have released a trailer showing off its DX11 features, which I’ve kindly placed below.

Zombie Stuido’s shooter Blacklight Tango Down didn’t go down particularly well with us. We did shrugging and said “s’ahright, spose…”, but our indifference has not defeated it because it’s back, BACK this year with a fresh incarnation of Unreal-powered near-future gun action: Blacklight Retribution. And there are robots! Slidey rocket-propelled crazybots, if this trailer is to be believed, which is should be, as it is footage from the game. The game will be free-to-play and will be part of Perfect World’s increasingly impressive-looking line-up of free online titles. Go take a look at this and then make that quiet “ahrm” noise you make when you are considering whether something will actually be any good.

That’s it, yeah.(more…)
