Attendees of the Vans Warped Tour this summer will have a chance to see not only bands we're too old to know anything about, but also the Nintendo 3DS. Through August 14, Warped Tour shows will host a 3DS tent, with playable demos of Ocarina of Time 3D, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, and more.

#augmentedar Everyone's testing the limits of the Nintendo 3DS augmented reality games, but it does seem that if you can replicate one of the cards it uses - preferably the question-mark box - you can start the game from anywhere, whether it's on the screen of an iPhone or, now, a white board. What are the AR Games? Every Nintendo 3DS system comes with a packet of paper cards with different images on them. By using these cards, you can play a series of "alternate reality" games built into the 3DS system. They use the system's camera to project games onto your desk, table, hand, or any flat surface...

Nintendo released its next-generation handheld console, the 3DS, in Japan last month. North American and European releases are scheduled for late March, but we went ahead and imported a unit so we could inspect all the new features -- and, of course, that screen.

After the break, find out all about the 3DS hardware and its built-in software, along with our impressions of each component. We might not be able to present the review in 3D, but that hasn't stopped us from going in-depth.

The 3DS camera can be used for Augmented Reality, where it takes pictures of real life scenes and inserts 3D characters in the image. You can use this in an in-game environment too via the included AR Games app and games like Nintendogs + Cats. In this case, you turn the camera on a set of AR cards that are included with the system, and out pop characters and items...
