Fear and surprise go hand in hand sometimes, so imagine our fearprise (surprear?) when we heard that FEAR 3's release had been pushed back a month in the UK. Originally set to launch on May 27, the game will now debut on June 24 in the UK, Warner Bros. revealed to Videogamer. No exact reason for the latest delay was provided.

In January, the game was pushed from March to May, but no specific date was announced. We contacted Warner Bros. and was told the game is now on pace to ship in the US on June 21.

FEAR 3 revolves around brothers Point Man and Paxton Fettel, sons of FEAR cover girl and downright creep-o, Alma. The third entry in the series features a "divergent co-op" experience and a plethora of multiplayer modes, which we previewed earlier this month.

[Thanks, Tyler C]

It’s official: Alma Wade don't give a damn about your calendar. The horror shooter being developed at Day 1 Studios is now slated to arrive on June 21, a representative at Warner Bros., the game's publisher, confirmed to me this morning. F.E.A.R. 3 has been postponed for, ironically enough, a third time.

Previously, F.E.A.R. 3 was slated to hit this May. Before that, the multi-platform game was slated for a March 22 release. Before even that, Alma's return was slated to hit in the fall.

If you were planning on being either a Pointy Man or a ton of Fettel this time next month, make a sad face now. The third full game in the now long-running series about man-shooting and women-fearing has backed down from its planned release on May 27, for reasons we may never know. Although the line (as given to OXM) is so “more time can be spent on optimisation in order to provide the best experience possible.”(more…)

A trailer’s been released covering upcoming horror FPS F.E.A.R. 3′s range of innovative multiplayer modes, namely Contractions, Soul Survivor, Soul King (which sounds like “Sulking” to me) and, of course, F**king Run. Turns out F.E.A.R. 3′s getting released on May 24th, just a couple of weeks after Brink, which is coming out one week after Section 8: Prejudice. Hmm. That’s unlikely to turn out well for anyone involved.(more…)

FEAR 3 will feature four multiplayer gametypes, each an isolated mode largely dissimilar to the others. We already got a look at the aptly named "F**king Run!" scenario during PAX East, and at a recent preview event I got my hands on the three other modes, as well as a second take of F**king Run.

What Day 1 Studios has done with the multiplayer component of FEAR 3 is employ an "everything but the kitchen sink" philosophy. The various modes offer widely varying experiences -- including deathmatch-type competition, co-operative play and scenarios that combine the two. This variety would seem to offer alternatives for players that get bored with any one mode, but with the exception of F**king Run, I didn't find any of the gametypes to be particularly unique or exciting. The alternatives, then, seem to be a bit limited.

When I sat down a couple of weeks ago to play F.E.A.R. 3's four multiplayer modes, I was immediately struck by one thing in particular. Every mode is a focused four-player affair. There's very little that could be called typical about anything I saw when I played each mode, and nothing that can accommodate a massive amount of players like most other shooters on the market...

If you're a horror game enthusiast living in the United Kingdom, you may want to spend the next couple of months avoiding any circumstances that may frighten you. Warner Bros. just announced that FEAR 3 is set to launch in your territory on May 27, meaning you've only got a little over nine weeks to store up all of your body's natural terror juices before playing through FEAR 3's titularly appropriate, spooky campaign.

Us Statesiders are also curious about how long we've got to prepare for all the phantasmagoria -- we've contacted Warner Bros. for an update on the game's North American release date.

It's always a good sign when a representative for a game developer who's leading you through a demo tells you, "No, that's not an in-house nickname -- that's what this game mode is actually called." The gametype in question is FEAR 3's "F***ing Run" (its actual moniker), a four-player cooperative mode that sends players down streets and alleys filled with enemies, whom they must mow down as they race from checkpoint to checkpoint.

That would sound like a fairly uninspired experience, if it weren't for the gigantic, horrifying innovation Day 1 Studios has thrown in the mix: The Wall of Death. As the players shoot their way through the crowd, a towering black cloud pursues them, gobbling up any and all stragglers who rely on the safety of cover for too long.

Why is FEAR 3 so damn scary? Well, the obvious answer is "because of all the blood and monsters and stuff," but the latest behind-the-scenes video shows that there's a little more to it than that. Well, a lot more to it than that, actually. Like, a whole universe of stuff to it than that.

Paxton Fettel won't be reserved solely for co-op in FEAR 3, as a new trailer reveals he will also be playable in the solo campaign. Once a level is beaten with protagonist Point Man, it will then be playable by Fettel, who can use his powers to defeat enemies -- by which we mean make them explode.

Listen, FEAR 3 protagonist Point Man: we know that you're craving Funyuns more than you've ever craved anything in your life. However, we'd suggest staying away from the Alma-infested supermarket for a while -- based on the screens below, it doesn't look like the safest place to be.
