This year's big Nicalis-published, retro-inspired, cave-exploring WiiWare remake is La-Mulana. It's a side-scrolling platformer that stars a whip-wielding archaeologist who keeps his laptop handy at all times.
Developer Asterizm announced today that the WiiWare remake will be released in Japan on June 21. " To our fans" in other regions, "you just have to wait a tiny big longer." Publisher Nicalis tweeted that it will announce the North American release date after E3.

Latest build of #lamulana is PURE AMAZING. #nigoro is working 15+ hour days to make sure it’s everything you want. Give them some support!
I’m still hoping this game makes it out before the end of the year. I played the PC version, but I never beat it. I [...]

If you haven't been following La-Mulana, Nicalis and Nigoro's WiiWare update of the indie PC classic, the lengthy video after the break should do an excellent job of catching you up. And, in our opinion, it's worth the time to get caught up. We could always use a new platforming adventure.

Developer Nigoro checked in via its blog to let the world know that work continues on the WiiWare remake of the PC action-adventure La-Mulana. The latest update gives us a look at ... the menu interface! It's more interesting than it sounds.
What, are you still playing Cave Story? That's old news. With that now out on the Wii Shop Channel, it's time to turn your attention to the next Japanese indie PC game about exploring mysterious caves to be published on the Wii by Nicalis (phew) -- Nigoro's La-Mulana.
The developer released a new video of the in-development remake, along with a statement of intent to use the game's development blog as a sort of manual or strategy guide, with Nigoro posting "archaeology lectures" that introduce the world and help you figure out the puzzles. Check out the trailer after the break.
Nicalis, the developer of the anticipated Wii remake of the indie hit Cave Story, briefly noted in a Christmas Eve blog post that the WiiWare game had been delayed into 2010. It seemed like a good time to check in with Tyrone Rodriguez, head of Nicalis and producer on the title.
Rodriguez spoke to us a bit about the progress of the remake, as well as Nicalis's other projects, Nicklas "Nifflas" Nygren's physics-based platformer NightSky and another WiiWare remake of a retro-style cave exploration platformer, La-Mulana.
This footage represents a work-in-progress. All gameplay elements, music and graphics are not final.

As of right now, the NIGORO development team is looking for input from WiiWare fans in order to work on menu details and button configuration.
I’m going to be using that whip animation as often as possible. I’m hoping it draws more attention to the game!
Also drawing more attention to the game would be the official Twitter feed. You can follow that for all sorts of La-Mulana goodness. All you have to do is click [...]
The official North American site for La-Mulana has just been opened. I guess that’s the tease that Nicalis was talking about on their official Twitter! The site is packed with gameplay information, character portraits, a collection of WiiWare screens, and much more. Hop over and take a look!

“We’re been following the Internet chatter after our La-Mulana announcement. The reaction has been awesome and we’re very excited about the reception from fans. Thank you! However, I want to address a fan concern that has been mentioned by blog commentators and some forums. The preview trailer we released is a flash movie that [...]
