The already long-in-development World of Warcraft film has been delayed.

"Release date for WARCRAFT from @Legendary Pictures released by @UniversalPics is moving from December 18, 2015, to March 11, 2016," reads a tweet from the official World of Warcraft Twitter account. No reason is given for the change, and on contacting representatives from World of Warcraft creator Blizzard Entertainment, we were told to ask the film's producers at Legendary. They, of course, were off celebrating the holidays.

This latest delay will prolong the film's production cycle yet again, though that should come as little surprise to any who have been following the project. It's been at least seven years since the film adaptation was revealed to the public and nearly five years since a director was attached to the movie. Whether this glacial production pace negatively impacts the final film remains to be seen - assuming any of us are still alive when the movie finally debuts.

The Warcraft movie has been rattling around Hollywood for years. First we were afraid, we were petrified, but rumours that Uwe Boll was going to make the movie turned out not to be true. Then Evil Dead/Spider-Man director Sam Raimi was attached to direct, but had to drop out due to other commitments, and we kept thinking we could never live without him by our side. Then Duncan Jones, the director of Moon and Source Code and a PC gamer, took over the project, and we knew we would not crumble.

It’s taken all the strength we’ve had not to fall apart, though now the movie has been delayed further into March 2016, to make way for Star Wars’ December 2015 release.(more…)

What happens when a guy, who has practically no experience with World of Warcraft, attends Blizzcon? If it's anything like Conan O'Brien's trip, the ignorance will result in hilarity - like how O'Brien discovered the oxygen is really thin in Azeroth or that all life in the realm must have a much weaker lung capacity than we do here in the world of the real. Also: bears in heat.

Outside of actually playing, O'Brien also chats with a team of professional players from Europe prior to the World of Warcraft of Warcraft World Championship and even sits down to commentate the finale. It's refreshing, because you never really hear commentators discuss the types of flooring to be found in Azeroth.

Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness may be coming to modern machines, thanks to a small team at Blizzard. Polygon reports that during the World of Warcraft question-and-answer panel at this year's BlizzCon, Production Director J. Allen Brack said that replaying the original trilogy was something he'd "love" to do.

"We actually have a guy on our team - actually several guys on our team - who are actually working on a side project to do something like that in some form or fashion," Brack told a fan who asked if Blizzard had considered making the original trilogy compatible with modern computers. What form or fashion this will take isn't clear, however.

It's also not clear if this "side project" will ever manifest as something available for the everyday gamer. Blizzard has a lot on their plate with a new card game, an upcoming Diablo 3 expansion and even a movie adaptation of the Warcraft franchise. So, they're kinda busy. Just a little bit.

World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor is officially, incontrovertibly A Thing. But what kind of a thing? Well, it’s a WoW expansion, so don’t expect the world’s most immersive virtual minigolf park, a karaoke-based Annoy John simulator, or a really good hotdog. But it is pushing into *some* uncharted territory, and for the rest, well, there’s always time travel. Warlords of Draenor is headed back in time to the horde’s original home, Old Draenor – Outland before it was Outland. There, you’ll find the usual fare like a raised level cap and new zones, but also time-twisting storylines, a robust player housing system with NPCs that can run dungeons for you, revamped raid and inventory systems, and more. Words and video below.

It was going to happen. Of course it was going to happen. World of Warcraft’s subscriber numbers might be deflating, but that won’t stop its loot-and-gizzard-laden frontiers from expanding. Blizzard mega-personality Chris Metzen took the stage to announce WoW’s “next chapter,” sadly lacking his sunglasses that typically raise the convention’s net sex appeal by 400 percent. He went on to announce that the new expansion, titled World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor, is rooted in the stories of Warcraft’s RTSes, Warcraft I, II, and III. Yep, we’re going back to the good old days – but, you know, in MMO form.

Blizzard Convention Two Thousand And Thirteen Anno Domini Year Of Our Metzen is upon us. Shortened to “BlizzCon” despite the svelte elegance of its full name, the show is Blizzard’s favorite place for new announcements. First up, Blizzard’s repeatedly reinvented MOBA Heroes of the Storm.

On September 24, Diablo creator Blizzard Entertainment filed an application to trademark the phrase "Heroes of the Storm" with the United States Patent And Trademark Office.

It's unclear what Blizzard plans to use this trademark for, though the application specifies that the mark is for use in computer and console games, downloadable content, and games designed for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. More intriguingly, the application notes that the name could also be applied to "computer games that may be accessed via a global computer network," lending credence to the theory that "Heroes of the Storm" may refer to an upcoming expansion for Blizzard's hit MMORPG World of Warcraft.

Whatever this trademark application refers to is not likely to be revealed to the public any time soon. We contacted Blizzard for clarification on its plans but were met with a boilerplate "no comment" in response.
