#guildwars Guild Wars, the first game, didn't offer a whole array of character races for players to choose from. Players were always human, even while free to play with variations on appearance. And it seems that Guild Wars players who got used to their looks have brought that bias with them into Guild Wars 2. More »

No-one’s immune to hacking, and the bigger they are the harder they fall (but more quickly they recover, given the megabucks, etc). Over the weekend, someone manage to slip a knife into World of Warcraft’s ribs, finding an exploit that allowed the usually near-invincible NPCs inhabiting the capital cities of Stormwind and Ogrimmar to become as weak as asthmatic kitten. Slaughter inevitably followed.(more…)

#worldofwarcraft From the sound of it, this level 1 character is one of a few hackers who discovered a bug or an exploit that allowed them to fly about World of Warcraft, insta-killing everyone. The plague broke out this weekend on multiple servers, and was seen in Stormwind, the Alliance capitol. More »

Entire cities of players and NPCs in World of Warcraft are being wiped out in a solitary blow, WoW Insider reports. The death traps began on European servers, in the cities of Ogrimmar and Stormwind, and have since spread to Tarren Mill, Ragnaros, Draenor, Twisting Nether and other realms, and include US servers, according to player reports.

A few videos document the phenomenon, showing level one characters insta-killing everyone in the area and the subsequent graveyards. The above video shows a level one Priest as he takes out everyone around him in Stormwind (the YouTube description reads, "The guy laughing is not the hacker!").

Blizzard has yet to comment officially.

As a child, one of my first Real Person (read: PC) games was Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness. Back in those days, the Horde and Alliance, well, they didn’t like each other so much. There was, I suppose you could say, a whole lot less crafting and a rather sizable helping of war. But times have changed, and so has the world of Warcraft. For one, it grew a world. That’s fairly significant. But with rather unpleasant-sounding crusades and apocalypse dragons came a certain level of necessary chumminess between the warring factions. According to Blizzard, however, Mists of Pandaria’s first major update is about to (finally) change all of that.

#facebook Sitting down and catching up on all the news this morning, a pair of headlines jumped out at me. Both were, in a sense, subscriber numbers. Each, by itself, is mildly interesting. Together, though, the figures paint a clear picture of why game development today is moving in a particular direction. More »

#worldofwarcraft Hey, it's Athene, the self-styled (and partly accurate) "world's best gamer"3. Hitting the streets in one of his "IRL" videos. It starts as though it's going to be four-and-a-half minutes of painful trolling, but actually turns into a pretty neat "man on the street" interview with one serious World of Warcraft player. #worldofwarcraft The Mists of Pandaria parted in World of Warcraft last week, unlocking a long-hidden, lore-heavy civilization for players of the popular MMO to explore. The most enjoyable tale out of the land of pandas, however, can be found between the covers of the Pearl of Pandaria graphic novel — a work that began development before the expansion pack was a going concern. We know World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria has kung-fun pandas in it. I’ve seen it on adverts on the telly and everything. What else does it have in it? Well, if you’ve got seven minutes you can find out, with the below flyover trailer that runs through some of the new zones, enemies, abilities and dungeons to be found in WoW’s fourth expansion. It’s like a timeshare brochure, but with flying ships, angry crab-men and Chinese temples.(more…)
