Earlier this evening at the inaugural Buzzfeed Brews event in New York City, HBO CEO Richard Plepler announced that HBO and PlayStation have partnered to offer the popular HBO GO app − first on PlayStation 3, with PlayStation 4 to follow.
With the HBO GO app on your PlayStation system and an HBO subscription via your cable or satellite provider, you’ll have unlimited, on-demand access to your favorite HBO shows, like Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and True Detective. HBO GO offers every episode of every season of the network’s best shows. You can also enjoy hit movies, sports, documentaries, and comedy specials, as well as special behind-the-scenes extras.
As a huge Game of Thrones fan, I can’t wait to watch the show using my PS3. Speaking of which, click here to watch the season 4 trailer that premiered earlier this week, in case you missed it.
Keep checking back here for more updates on when the HBO GO app will be available to download on PS3 and PS4.
Hey pals! I’m happy to announce that Gunhouse is available now on PlayStation Mobile! We’ve got music by Disasterpeace of Fez fame, code by the guy that made Frog Fractions, and design by yours truly.
I’m here to give you some Hot Tips to excel at Gunhouse, which is a pseudo-turn-based, puzzle game/tower defense sort of hybrid. The aim of Gunhouse is to protect your precious orphans from these mechanical alien invaders, who want to eat your dang orphans. Why!? Who would do such a thing?
What you have to do in a nutshell, is make big ammo blocks within the puzzle grid inside the house. Slide smaller blocks to the left and right – you can slide as many or as few smaller blocks as you like, and use the power of gravity to fuse four similar blocks into a 2 big block! Or 2! Or if you’re a super pro, 6!
Then you have to slide blocks to the left to load the guns on the front of your house. You can also slide blocks to the right to load special attacks on the back of your house. Once the door shuts on your puzzle grid, it’s time for action. Enemies will come from the left side of the screen, and you tap your guns and special attacks to activate them, blasting your foes to bits. Once you run out of ammo, the puzzle door slides open again, and it’s time to load up more blocks – repeat until your enemies are decimated!
Now that you know the basics, onto the tips:
Tip One: Look for tetrominos. It takes a while to get the hang of making big blocks, but if you look for Tetris styled shapes, you’re going to have an easier time. If you see a straight line on the left or right, shift the second block from the bottom one block over. That’ll make a sideways T-shape tetromino. Now shift the bottom block one over. That’ll fuse into a square! Experimenting with tactics like these will get you making big combos in no time.
Tip Two: Element match.Right up there next to the puzzle grid you’ll see two blocks. Whichever one is closest to you is the current most powerful block type to load. The one to the left is the next one in line to be the most powerful block type. If you match these by loading a block of 2 or greater into your gun or special queue, you get a big bonus. The bigger the block, the bigger the bonus. You definitely want to make good use of this!
Tip Three: Overkill. If you keep loading the same type of gun into the same slot, that gun will get more powerful. If you load a new type into that slot, it’ll overwrite it. Once you’ve loaded one weapon type, keep pounding at it with the same sort of block until the door closes, especially while element matching, and you’ll have a real powerful weapon.
Tip Four: Play the waiting game. You don’t need to activate all your guns at once. If you’ve got a gun in the top slot, wait until some flying enemies appear to activate it. If you see a bunch of ground minions coming, and you have a special attack that blankets the area (like the Skull Gun special), wait until a lot of them are on screen before you activate it, so you can do maximum damage.
Tip Five: Don’t forget to upgrade! This may seem obvious, but we’ve seen some players who forget to upgrade their weapons and health in the shop. Once you buy a new weapon, it’s auto-equipped into your random gun rotation, so make sure you power it up first. Once you get the maximum HP upgrade, you start to unlock armor upgrades, which can be pretty useful as well!
And that’s about it! With these tactics in your bag of tricks, you’ll be destroying alien jerks like a pro. We really like this game, and we hope you do too – feel free to leave us feedback or visit our website for more info about future games!
PS Vita owners can download Gunhouse from the PlayStation Mobile section of PlayStation Store for $3.29; Owners of PlayStation certified devices such as the Sony Xperia Z1S smartphone, HTC One or Sony Xperia Tablet Z, can also get it through the PlayStation Mobile Store. Ron Howard returns to the Director’s chair to deliver Rush, an exhilarating true story of a legendary rivalry that took place during the glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing. The two most talented drivers mercilessly clash on and off the Grand Prix racetrack: gifted English playboy James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and his methodical, brilliant Austrian opponent, Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl). Both push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there’s no shortcut to victory and no margin for error.
In the new film Dear Mandela, follow the journey of three friends who live in a vast shantytown and refuse to be moved after South Africa’s government promises to ‘eradicate the slums’ and begins to evict shack dwellers far outside the city. Today we’re giving you a look at the first pair of downloadable multiplayer maps for Killzone Shadow Fall, inspired by key locations from the single-player campaign. The maps will be released to the community free of charge, and will be fully compatible with Killzone Shadow Fall’s Custom Warzone feature.
First up is The Cruiser, a close-to-mid-range combat map set in the confines of a decommissioned ISA cruiser. Consisting of tight, claustrophobic corridors and interconnected compartments, the key to dominating this map is identifying and controlling its choke points.
Next is The Hangar, a wide-open map situated in the hangar bay of one of Helghan’s humongous mining spires. In addition to the main area, which offers long lines of sight suitable for sniping, the map contains alternative routes that will need to be secured for full control.
Apart from The Cruiser and The Hanger multiplayer maps, we’re also working on the first DLC expansion pack for Killzone Shadow Fall. We’ll have more information on what it entails and when it’s available in the near future. There’s a whole season of exciting multiplayer content coming to Killzone Shadow Fall, so be sure to pick up the Season Pass to get it all at the best value!
Hiya. I’m David, the de-facto Chief Person at Ludometrics, based in Glasgow, Scotland. The team here has been around for a long time in various forms, prior to teaming up again at Ludometrics; we originally made games for mobile phones way back last century, if you can imagine that.
Today, though, I’m here to tell you about Bodycheck, a game I’ve been waiting to make for quite a long time. Sometimes, as it’s said, all you need is a little patience.
Bodycheck is a sports game for people who don’t necessarily like sports. Personally, I’m a fan of sports. I can sports with the best of them. But I find most sports games of recent years lack a certain something-something. Perhaps they’re not physical enough, or they manage not to capture the chaos of play, or sometimes they’re just a bit ponderous.
Bodycheck will (hopefully) contain that certain something-something. I love reading about the origins of football in the Middle Ages, with 500 players per team and matches lasting days — and the ball was actually a pig’s head.
We won’t have that many players per team in the game, and matches will be a tad shorter, but punching, scratching, and general unnecessary roughness are all actively encouraged during play. Just remember to score more points than your opponents.
Speaking of the Middle Ages, we’re also taking a cue from tales of sorcerers, witchcraft, and alchemists. You’ll have the ability to cast spells (need to resurrect one of your teammates? No problem. How about taking out your opponents with lightning bolts?), and use powerful items (the portable hole is a firm favourite). Perhaps you need a few more seconds to score the winning points in a match, or the reverse: to stop the match early while you’re in front? Simply bribe the timekeeper.
So Bodycheck is a sports game with no rules against foul play, magic powers, and (explicit) corruption. And it will be multiplayer. Did I mention that you can have four-way matches?
It’s definitely our most ambitious game to date, and PS Vita is the perfect platform for it. That’s why I’ve had to be patient — finding the right platform and team to bring your idea to life can take time, never mind finding yourself in a situation where the amazing team at PlayStation listen to your crazy idea and give you the opportunity to work on that right platform.
We’re working hard on the game as I type, and we’re aiming for a Q3 2014 release. We’ll be posting regular updates at ludometrics.com, and you can find us on Twitter and Facebook.
Hey PlayStation community, we are back after an exciting CES last week. PlayStation Mobile was on the show floor in the Play area of the Sony booth. We showed games off on a shiny new Xperia Z1S, which is launching soon on T-Mobile here in the US. We also allowed mobile gamers to experience what having a portable and wearable home theatre was like, by hooking up the HMZ-T3W to the Z1S.
This week is the last week of our Festive Giveaway promotion that began over Thanksgiving. We are sending this promotion out with a bang by giving you Monster Hotel and Quiet Please.
We have some amazing games launching this week, so be sure to check them out. This week, we have Gun House and Crystal Ice launching. We also have updates to Chromatic Aberration and Shooting Star Featured.

Gunhouse is a game about making tiny blocks become bigger blocks so that you can make those bigger blocks become guns and special attacks, so you can attack horrible enemy bad dudes that want to steal your dang orphans. Tiki Rush: Escape from Lava Island by Mercury Active (Full Game $2.79, DLC $2.29-99.99)Glen Bakie, President of Mercury Interactive, provided some insight as to why they made Tiki Rush for PlayStation Mobile:
Last week we launched our first game for the PlayStation Mobile platform, Tiki Rush. It’s a game that definitely brings out the “wild side” in you. In developing Tiki Rush, our goal was to entertain players with really quirky humour and challenging gameplay that they’d resonate with. We know this formula will have players wanting to play over and over again.
Level design is so important for a game like this. We really took the time to figure out placement of objects and obstacles to get it just right. We believe that when players get into the game and start getting familiar with it, they’ll appreciate the little things like how the jewel patterns are randomized, quirky powerups, mask and outfit customization and the tiki cup bonus game. We were also happy to see the game perform well on multiple platforms, especially moving between touch and button controls on the PS Vita.
We’re partners with an animation studio that focuses on TV. So of course the 2D and 3D artists were super excited to be working on a Playstation ™ Mobile title as a change of pace. There were LOTS of “debates” between the creative and technical teams in terms of how much could be visually packed into the game! In the end, some really creative solutions were developed and we think the results really come across beautifully on screen.

Hello, hello! It’s been a while. Today, I would like to talk about our upcoming title Toukiden: The Age of Demons for PS Vita. Having sold half a million copies in Japan, it’s coming to North America on February 11th, 2014.
Set against a backdrop inspired by various historical periods of Japan, Toukiden tells the tale of humanity’s last stand for survival. When monstrous demons (Oni) of varying strength and size invaded the world through cracks in space and time and started attacking humans, the only opposition came from the Slayers: a caste that has always secretly protected mankind from the demons’ murderous intent.
Eight years after the Oni first appeared, a brave young Slayer embarks on a journey to thin the numbers of the enemy and help humanity survive. You take on the role of this young warrior and can fully customize their appearance, weapons and armor, and form a group of hunters to take down the destructive Oni.
The Slayers organization has secretly dealt with the Oni threat for more than a thousand years. Since large numbers of Oni appeared eight years ago during an event known as the Awakening, they have served as the guardians of mankind and taken center stage in the land’s history. The warriors that serve within the organization are also referred to as Slayers. With the unique ability to slay the Oni and purify their carcasses from the miasma infecting the land, they refer to themselves as the “demons who slay demons.”
The strange, demon-like creatures came from another world to devour the souls of living beings and change them into their own life force. The larger Oni also possess the ability to regenerate any limbs that they may have lost. For more than 1,000 years, the Slayers have fought against them from the shadows, but when vast hordes of them appeared eight years ago during the Awakening, the order of the world was permanently disrupted.
Possessing a potent life force, the Oni have the remarkable ability to regenerate themselves. No matter how much damage their bodies may take, they will look for an opportunity to recover as long as they have sufficient life force remaining. You have to work together with the other Slayers to destroy their body parts and then use the Ritual of Purification to prevent the Oni from regenerating.
Toukiden: The Age of Demons for the PS Vita will be available in North America on February 11th, 2014. For more information about the game, please visit the official site.
