Remember when Capcom conducted a poll asking how we wanted to receive the additional content being offered in Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition -- in a boxed version of the game or as a DLC expansion to the original? Turns out the questionnaire wasn't a pointless exercise. A majority of the participants answered that they'd rather receive the new features (including motion-control functionality) as a downloadable pack. After deliberating with the RE5 team in Osaka, Capcom has announced that the new content will come to the U.S., Europe and Australia as DLC for the core game. Considering Alternative Edition is going to Japan in a retail box, this move is fairly surprising. Perhaps even a little upsetting, if you've gone ahead and traded your copy of the game in towards the cost of Horse Life Adventures. Even more upsetting if you did that today. Like, right before writing this post. Gah!

As promised, this week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week is the Versus Mode DLC for Resident Evil 5. The content has been discounted by forty percent, dropping from 400 ($5) to 240 ($3). We can't imagine there being too many fence-sitters out there waiting to buy this initially controversial DLC (which we liked). Over in Japan, they're getting a different deal: Golf: Tee It Up for 400 ($5), fifty percent off the normal price. Remember when you could just call a game "Golf" and be done with it? Update: Houston, we have prices! As you already know, this week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week is none other than Prince of Persia's 'Epilogue' DLC. We're not here to talk about that, though -- instead, we're here to give you the heads up on what the rest of this month has in store for penny-pinching purchasers looking for goodies on Xbox Live. So let's get to it:October 12 Hasbro Family Game Night (Battleship, Connect 4, Scrabble, Yahtzee, Boggle and Sorry! Sliders discounted to 400) October 19 Resident Evil 5's Versus mode (discounted to 240) October 26 Fable II Pub Games (discounted to 400) Pub Games is the only title with its planned discount listed, so you'll have to wait until the appropriate time to know how much the others are discounted for. We're sorry we boggled your mind with savings, only to battle your ship -- ah, forget it, that joke could never work.

Over at Capcom Unity, they're polling individuals on what they would like to see in a localized version of the recently revealed Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition. In Japan, the title is coming on a new disc to the retail space, but Capcom is still entertaining different delivery solutions for North America and Europe, namely digital distribution as DLC for the original game. Since Capcom's had success with the Versus add-on and recent digital wares such as SSF2THD and Marvel vs Capcom 2, it's willing to go that route if the demand is high enough. So Capcom put up a poll and, if you want your voice heard, we suggest you make with the clickings. As for tangible, things-you-can-see-in-front-of-you-right-now news, we'd like to direct your attention to GAME Watch. The site's put up some screens from the new "Lost in Nightmares" mission that takes us back in time to the classic team's jaunt through the Spencer Mansion and, as you can see above, Jill's defense of her status as the Master of Unlocking.Source - Capcom asks: What do you want in RE5: Alternative Edition?Source - New screens from GAME Watch

The awkwardly named Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition is the forthcoming motion control-enabled update of RE5, complete with PS3 waggle and a new flashback mission starring Jill Valentine set in the Spencer Mansion. While the new content may find its way to the Xbox 360 in a "different format," you can assume the motion controls will be a PS3-exclusive. However, since the above trailer doesn't say anything about motion controls and instead focuses on the setting (remember that fight?), Xbox 360 owners can just pretend it's for them as well.

When Jun Takeuchi surprised Tokyo Game Show attendees with a motion-controlled version of Resident Evil 5 (subtitled "Alternative Edition"), he also revealed some new included content, reportedly a flashback scene set in the Spencer mansion featuring Jill Valentine. According to an IGN translation of a Dengeki Online article, the new scene (and whatever else Alternative Edition includes) may not be constrained to Sony's platform. Dengeki says that the new content may come to 360, but in a "different format," possibly implying a DLC release on Xbox Live Marketplace. It's great news, but keep in mind: there will only have motion control support on one platform.

Well, maybe featuring Jill is not quite accurate -- "it's gonna be, uh, at least, somewhat involving Jill Valentine," confirms voice of Jill, Patricia Ja Lee, fresh from recording new voice and perhaps mocap work for Resident Evil 5: Director's Cut. That's right: Resident Evil 5: Director's Cut. It seems that P.J. Lee has also inadvertently announced a new, more twisting, more turning version of RE5 in the works. What else do we know? "It's some good scenes." Catch the full blab after the break.
