  • Added achievement responses for Soldier
  • Added Jarate responses for Engineer
  • Included normal Sentry in the voice responses for when you have your sentry destroyed while holding a Frontier Justice (assuming the Sentry had a recent kill)
  • Various bugfixes
  • Fixed pretty much every valve-created rule so that they apply contexts correctly (so different response groups will not overlap or repeat)
  • Moved some responses around.
  • Check the changelog for the full list of changes, it's just mostly tweaks.
  • Fixed a bug relating to Medic's domination lines
  • Added Jarate/Milk responses for Scout
  • Ditto for Sniper (different responses if he's scoped or not)
  • Synced to latest release, so the Katana works again (although I added taunts to it before valve did - and they still haven't given it a unique response)
  • A few tweaks and bugfixes, see changelog

  • Fixed Spy's multi-kill responses, they were incorrectly set by valve since launch
  • Added all of Spy's unused lines to various ares (getting a kill while disguised, positive voice menu, getting a sap and stab/stab and sap, melee dares, ubercharge respones, revenge lines
  • Added melee dares for Medic
  • Made it so that Medic' killstreak/domination lines have a chance to play whenever he gets a kill
  • Added standard and unused responses for when you deploy a Kritzkrieg UberCharge
  • Added ubercharge responses and automatic/manual kill assist lines for Medic
  • Updated with Shogun weapon stuff, and added taunts to the Katana (as valve originally intended) and Eyelander resposnes to the Katana (when used by Demoman)

  • Added all of Sniper's unused voice lines to various areas (scoped kills, revenge skills, scoped revenge kills, aiming at a player while scoped, killing Spies/Soldiers/Heavies while scoped or unscoped, Payload responses)
  • Added unused Sniper domination lines (play on scoped kills as they are whispers. Basically I've split up whispers and loud responses so that whispers only play when scoped (with the exception of headshots, which can play whispers and loud responses)
  • Huntsman can now play killing spree lines
  • Added 'new weapon' lines for when you are holding a non-stock weapon as a Sniper
  • Added melee dares for Sniper
  • Added ubercharge responses for Sniper
  • Added achievement responses for Sniper
  • Made Achievement responses for Heavy, Sniper and Scout uninterruptible.
  • Made all domination and revenge lines for Sniper uninterruptible.
  • Attached the unused PlayerTaunts voice lines to Sniper's positive voice command
  • Added responses for throwing Mad Milk
  • Updated how Scout's Double Jump response works, should be kinder to ninja Scouts
  • Added a Sniper melee taunt variant and added a vocal line to the Huntsman taunt
  • Added SMG kill response
  • Each Scout melee now has its own response group
  • Domination and Revenge lines can no longer be interrupted by pain/fire (for all the classes included in this mod so far.
  • Added unused Pyro lines/melee dare/assist/positive voice menu etc.
  • Engineer lines added. Combo punch, melee dares, etc.
  • Engineer now builds, moves and redeploys quietly with the Gunslinger.
  • Implemented all of Heavy's unused lines, including melee lines and Fists of Steel line, melee dares (hold melee weapon then do the "Battle Cry" voice command while facing an enemy)
  • Achievement lines for Heavy and Scout
  • Melee dare lines for Scout and Soldier
  • Fixed Buffalo Steak and Dalokohs playing Sandvich lines
  • Added eyelander kill lines
  • Added invulnerable responses for Demoman
  • Given crit-a-cola its own lines
  • Scout Uber invulnerability lines
  • Fixed Heavy's broken minigun lines
  • Added vocal lines to Kritzkrieg, Ubersaw and Equalizer taunts
  • Added a taunt to the Caber (unused Bottle taunt)
  • Added explosion lines to the Caber
  • Added 'invulnerable not ready' lines to BONK!
  • Added gibberish to Demoman melee (non-eyelander) kills
  • Added Pain Train line to Pain Train
  • Added eyelenader taunt to claymore and UHHHH
  • Medic follow lines for the Soldier
  • Pocket Soldier killing spree lines
  • Assist lines (say thanks after a kill, or it can automatically play when you are being healed by a Medic)
  • 'New weapon' lines for the Heavy (do a battle cry or get a kill while holding any Minigun except for Sasha.

Tips on how to hear the new lines:

  • To hear the melee dares, you use the 'Battle Cry' voice command while facing an enemy.
  • Classes other than Heavy have ubercharge responses
  • While playing Heavy, using the 'Battle Cry' voice command on an enemy (whilst not holding a melee weapon) will cause him to insult them (as long as the enemy you are looking at is not a Heavy
  • Using the 'Battle Cry' voice command while holding a Minigun that isn't Sasha will make the Heavy speak about his new weapon
  • Heavy weill speak about how good his new weapon is when you get a kill with a Minigun that isn't Sasha
  • Heavy will say stuff like "My Doctor is still alive!" when you kill an enemy Medic while being healed by your own
  • "My fists, they are made of STEEL!" will be spoken by Heavy when you get a kill with them
  • Heavy says "Take this!" etc when you punch
  • Assist lines play automatically when you get a few kills while being healed (very low chance, so it doesn't get spammed)
  • Assist lines can be played manually by saying the 'Thanks!' voice command after you get a kill, you can't spam this though
  • The Equalizer, Ubersaw and Kritzkrieg taunts have been updated with vocals
  • Hit somebody with the Ullapool Caber to make the Demoman say "Ka-boom!" etc
  • The Ullapool Caber uses the unused Bottle taunt
  • Kill somebody with the Eyelander to hear "There can be only one!", the other variation of this line is heard if you kill a Demoman.
  • If you're a Soldier being healed and you go on a killing spree with your Medic, you'll hear the alternate "Kapow!" and "Kaboom!" lines
  • Smashing somebody with a Bottle now results in gibberish lines in addition to the Scrumpy line, but you won't hear the scrumpy line while using a Pan or Pain Train or a sword/axe. In addition, taunting with the Bottle then swinging it results in gibberish lines.
  • Scout has a specific line for when he kills a Pyro and another specific line for when he kills an enemy Scout. He also has specific lines for when he gets a domination with a melee weapon
  • Getting hit while holding/drinking the BONK! atomic punch will produce the 'invulnerable not ready' responses.
  • Drinking Crit-a-cola and then firing has its own responses.

what do i say

Fallen Shade
So thats why Demo was being more gibberish than usual every time I got a melee kill

I’ll admit to some cynicism when the first round of public voting in the Team Fortress 2 Saxxy Awards kicked off. Probably because the quality of the entrants meant it was like picking through poison sea urchins with your bare hands. But all that’s changed! Now we’re down to the final nominees, the ten videos with the most votes in each of the film making contest’s twenty categories. Click here to take part in the final round of voting, or just peer at all the talent on display. I’ve even dropped one of the better ones after the jump.(more…)

Much like in the historical documentary 300, we have evaluated all of your movies and thrown the weak ones down a well, keeping only the Gerard Butlers. Now it's up to you, the TF2 community, to select the Gerard Butleriest.

"This is madness!" we hear you say. "No it is not!" we reply, just like in that immortal scene we always fast forward through to get to the fight scenes.

That's right. Unlike at other awards shows, where the winners are necromanced by magicians, the Saxxy Award winners in all twenty categories will be picked by YOU, the discriminating TF2 player, as well as by magicians.

Each player gets one vote per category. You can change your vote right up until the voting ends this Monday, June 6th, at 11:00am PST.

#fineart Unlike perhaps any game since the 16-bit era, Team Fortress 2 has a look that is almost timeless. To get characters looking that good takes not only years of development, but years of concept art as well. More »

Not that we have a garage (or would know what to do in one), but that's where our dad used to hang the "classy" calendars he would get from Car & Wrenches Quarterly. We'd probably do the same thing with these sexy female centerfolds of each class in Team Fortress 2.

At the close of the submission deadline last Thursday, we'd received tens of thousands of videosmany of them amazing, others less amazing but at least following the rules, and still more of them clips from King of Queens with Linkin Park songs dubbed over them. While we appreciate the passion of that final group, we should remind you that the King of Queens Metal Maelstrom contest isn't until next month.

For the rest of you, this is a reminder to get voting. As of last Thursday the Saxxys entered the all-important Battle Voting stage, with your choices bringing the strongest videos in each category to the top of the heap. Battle Voting ends Thursday, May 26th, so if you've got opinions, vote now while they still matter!

Once Battle Voting's culled the weak, Kevin James-based rap metal entries from the herd, a panel of immortal Valve combat film critics will descend from their monastery at the top of the Space Needle to choose a set of final nominees from each category. They will then bang an important-looking gong, thus re-opening the voting to the community. Each user will get ONE vote per category to help determine who will be taking home Saxxys.

Depending on how much fibreglass you ate as a child you may or may not remember that the last two weeks saw Valve encouraging people to use Team Fortress 2′s new editing suite to submit videos in a whopping twenty different categories. The deadline for this competition is long gone but the fun is just beginning, as now anyone with a Steam account can start judging those videos via this very link.(more…)

Allo, mes amis! Ho ho ho!

Valve took a film class last week so they would be qualified to judge the many great entries in the Saxxy Awards contest! So many unfamiliar terms! Mise en scene! Auteur! Avante-garde! Montage! Even cinéma itself!

What do all of these words have in common? Un: They sound complicated enough that Valve decided they had no business judging cinéma. Deux: These words were all invented by me, Francis the Talking France! And so Valve has spared no expense in flying me tout de suite to the French-sounding town of Bellevue to judge the entries myself! C'est magnifique!

But onh-honh-honh. Why the sad French sounds? Because I see now this is too big a job for one talking France. So I am writing this poste de blog to announce that judging of the Saxxy Awards is now open to tout le monde! Le jugement est fantastique!

Click here to start your voting adventure! À bientôt!

You ask? We answer. Eventually. We've updated the Saxxy info page with answers to many of the questions pouring in from all you budding combat filmmakers.

Server admins can find all the info they need about enabling the replay system on their servers.

Additionally, several of you have asked for the Meet the Director comic without the text bubbles. Sure. Download the 22MB zip file here.

In community news: Community vs Pros goes live May 14th with a re-realized format that will select nine players from all corners of the TF2 community to face off against the six invited pros. Check out their promotional video of the event.

That's all for today. Keep those video submissions coming. Remember: The sky’s the limit, but under a minute.

Team Fortress 2 updates tend to be good news for everyone, and the latest one is no exception. If you actually play TF2, you can now download the "Replay Update," allowing you to save and edit video replays of your matches, share them on Steam and upload them to YouTube. The update also brings new achievements and, like everything else that happens in this game, new hats.

But if you don't play Team Fortress 2, you still get a hilarious comic. You'll also get some entertainment in the form of the "Saxxy Awards" -- Valve is offering prizes for the best videos in 20 categories. If you think you can record a really spectacular death, get to it! You have until May 19. If you don't want to contribute, just get some popcorn.

Valve have added a replay editor to team-based FPS Team Fortress 2! Replay-enabled servers will now record matches in their entireity, allowing players to go back and cherry-pick clips, and even add “sexy motion blur”. How are Valve celebrating? With an award ceremony, naturally. In just under two weeks The Saxxy Awards (25% Gold, 75% Australium) will be presented to the winners of twenty different categories, ranging from “Best 30 Second Trailer” to “Most Epic Fail”. There’s also new achievements, and a new hat available to anybody who uses the thing to get more than 1,000 views on Youtube (a number so low that I suspect we’ll get a few potato-faced mouthbreathers clicking on their own blank video reel a thousand times). Anything else? Certainly! There’s also a new comic right here.

Steven Spielberg. Robert Scorcese. Socrates. The guy who made those Old Spice commercials.

What do these names have in common? They are the four best filmmakers in the world. And they all got there the same way: by competing in a filmmaking competition we're just now announcing.

Go pick up the berets that just flew off your shocked heads, filmmakers, directors and auteurs. Because The Replay Update is live, and we're celebrating with the First Annual Saxxy Awards--the most prestigious made-up contest since the "strongman competition" Robin Walker held at his house last year, where it turned out he just wanted help moving his couch.

While you're pondering your next blockbuster, take a minute to read the new comic, Meet the Director, to uncover the controversial circumstances that led to the creation of this major event.

Pre-purchase the "everything explained in the title" game Mount & Blade With Fire & Sword by May 3rd and you'll receive two new TF2 hats: The Hetman's Headpiece for the Engineer, and the Janissary Ketche for the Spy, pictured above.

What else is up? This: SpaceChem, the game Robin Walker dubbed "pretty much the greatest game ever made," has introduced three new TF2-themed levels. Travel to Australia, solve puzzles and unlock achievements to receive the new craftable element Moustachium in TF2. Use this new element to craft special SpaceChem-themed items, including a fishcake. That's right: this marks the start of a trend we're all for: other developer working their butts off to make a promotion for us. "Put your feet up, Team Fortress Team," SpaceChem seems to be saying. "You let us handle this one." Don't mind if we do, SpaceChem. Don't mind if we do.

#meetthemilliner With Portal 2 knocking Team Fortress 2 from the limelight this week, many people are probably wondering what the hell they're going to do with all those hats they've picked up. Well, you can use them in Portal 2. More »

All of us here on the TF2 team have been asking to play Portal 2 for months now.

"Go away," the Portal guys told us. "You'll just try to put hats in it."

"Whaaattttt?" we said. "That'spsshhhh. If anything, we'll probably tell you to take some hats out of the game."

"There are no hats in the game."

After this, there was an awkward ten-minute silence while all of us on the TF2 team stared at the Portal guys, waiting for them to start laughing. Instead, they just told us to go away again. That's when we realized: with so little time left before release, we couldn't afford to waste any time playing the game. We had to fix it. Now. So late last night we snuck into the Portal 2 source code and copy/pasted some hats into it.

You're welcome, Portal 2 team.

Today, we pass the fruits of our clandestine game-saving labor onto you, the hat-loving public (or as you're more commonly known, the public). If you own any of the following hats in Team Fortress 2, you'll be able to equip them on your Cooperative Testing Initiative robots in Portal 2:

  • Mann Co. Cap
  • Prince Tavish's Crown
  • Pyro's Beanie
  • Fancy Fedora
  • Master's Yellow Belt
  • Tyrant's Helm
If you've been on the fence up until nowand who could blame youyou've finally got a reason to buy Portal 2. Courtesy of Team Fortress 2. The best game that Valve makes with a "2" on the end.

#overexposure Team Fortress 2's recent "hatless" update may not have had any hats, but this week there is a new, single accessory: a pin you can stick on your players. A Portal pin. You know, in case anyone hanging around Steam hadn't seen too much about that game already. More »

Against our explicit instructions, Robin "Judas" Walker somehow managed to sneak a hat into the Hatless Update yesterday. According to him, it's not a hat, it's a pin, and so not technically against the hat embargo. Much like the villain in Lethal Weapon 2, he seems to have found a loophole in the system and is untouchable.

Rest assured we're going to spend the weekend at the library looking up the definition of the word "pin," but in the meantime, our hands are tied, and we have no choice but to tell you about this spectacular deal. Pre-order Portal 2, and you'll get this suspiciously hat-like "pin" to wear proudly. It's like a hat for your chest. (No it's not. -Robin)

The latest update to Valve's Team Fortress 2 is bizarrely characterized by what it doesn't contain: hats. No hats to be seen here, folks! Rather than stuff the patch with new, digital chapeaus, Valve has added somewhat beefier offerings, like a matchmaking system that sets up inexperienced players with a "Coach," new training exercises for the Spy, Engineer and Demoman, and a redesigning of the KOTH_Badlands map.

You can check out the full list of updates after the jump -- though, if you're like us, you'll probably just peruse the list while hunting for any surreptitious Portal 2 ARG clues. They're everywhere, we tell you!
