We've slaved over it. We've missed sleep, meals, and loved ones for it. We've been up countless hours perfecting it. And now, finally, we've put it aside for a few minutes to slap together this update.

So here it is, folks: a Team Fortress 2 100% guaranteed Hatless Update! Now if you'll excuse us, we'd like to get back to our years-long quest to design the ultimate hat. "For the game?" you ask. Uhhh, sure. Now pass those sequins.

Cripes. You may remember us reporting that as of some two weeks ago, Valve were selling a variety of hats and noisemakers in Team Fortress 2 with prices ranging from $0.49 to $100 (that’d be the one on the right, there) in the name of raising money forAmerican Red Cross’s disaster relief fund for Japan. Those items vanished from the game’s Mann Co. store on Wednesday last week, but Valve have today reported on the official Team Fortress 2 blog that fans bought a total of $430,543 and 65 cents’ worth of stuff. Good work, gamers!

To mark the occasion, I’ve arranged for Sambomaster to play us out after the jump.(more…)

Valve has announced the total sum brought in during its two-week Team Fortress 2 charity drive, which sold three limited edition in-game hats to raise funds for the Japanese disaster relief fund. The amount is beyond incredible: In just 14 days, the TF2 community gave $430,543.65 to aid in recover efforts following the devastating earthquake which hit Japan on March 11.

If you managed to miss out on this promotion, don't worry -- much like the charitable Team Fortress 2 hats pictured above, donating to the Red Cross' Japanese disaster relief efforts never goes out of style.

Nice work, everyone! We're excited to share that, thanks to the generosity of the TF community, in two short weeks we managed to collect $430,543.65 for the Japanese disaster relief fund. It's been inspiring to watch gamers around the world come together for such a worthy cause.

We'd also like to give a special thanks to the good folks over at the Unusual Hats Club for taking it upon themselves to raise an additional $3,000 through their own Hats for Help campaign.

Thanks for taking part in our charity drive, everyone! Wear your hats with pride!

No? Oh kay.

He could not wait to go deliver his guilty hanging verdict for whatever it is criminal did, but he left seventeen page speech for me to type to you. I am not doing this.

Anyway, hats. They are new and very good for you. There are ten of them. One is bear, not hat. So nine hats and bear. Available through drops, craftings and store. Is good deal, you should buy. Moneys go to TF community members who make hats and bears. Do not wait. Get in line now for hat or bear. Have money ready because line is going to be long.

We usually tint stories about in-game digital goods that people bought with out-of-game, for-real money with notes of disbelief -- but for this particular post, we've got nothing but heartwarming respect. The three hats recently added to Team Fortress 2, available for a charitable donation of $7.99, $19.99 or $99.99, have pulled in over $300,000 in just one week for disaster relief in Japan.

You've got time to bump that total up even more. The Humanitarian's Hachimaki, Benefactor's Kanmuri and Magnanimous Monarch (pictured above) will be available until April 4. We guarantee that they're stylin', profilin' and remarkably altruistic.

Last week, game developer and virtual hatter Valve put three new hats up for sale in Team Fortress 2, with the proceeds going to Japan disaster relief. Days later, more than $300,000 has been raised by charitable/fashion-conscious TF2ers. Damn. They should do this more often. More »

Wow. Seriously, people, WOW. We knew you had it in you, but we're still amazed you've raised over $300,000 so far.

Take a BOW, TF2 community -- because that is an incredible, frankly astounding, amount of money from a dedicated number of gamers, to one heck of a lot of people in some real need right now. Anytime someone gives you guff about something negative in gaming, you go ahead and point them to this post, because here's some late-breaking damn news: they are wrong and gamers are generous and awesome.

Thanks again, and don't forget, these items are available until April 6.

Valve is currently supporting the Japanese relief effort with three limited edition hats in the Team Fortress 2 store. The Mann Co. is offering the "Humanitarian's Hachimaki" for $7.99, the "Benefactor's Kanmuri" for $19.99 and the honorable "Magnanimous Monarch" for the big relief spender at $99.99. The hats can be equipped by all classes, but can't be traded nor used in crafting.

The items will be available until April 6 and all proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross' Japanese disaster relief fund. If you don't like hats, the Red Cross has a handy site to which you can donate directly.

[Thanks, Tyler]

Valve, the studio behind Team Fortress 2, is releasing three hats for purchase: The "Humanitarian's Hachimaki" ($7.99), the "Benefactor's Kanmuri" ($19.99) and the "Magnanimous Monarch" ($99.99). They will be available until April 6. All proceeds, says Valve, goes to Japan relief fund the Red Cross created, so feel good when you shell out for the Magnanimous Monarch headgear. There are now more gaming-related fundraising schemes for victims of the natural disaster in Japan than it’s possible to enumerate. Hopefully all have been of some use, even the ones that seemed to involve more than a little self-promotion en route.

Now it’s Valve’s turn to stretch some fanbase muscle: via the quiet microtransaction giant that is Team Fortress 2, they’ve weaved a limited edition set of hats and noise makers, all proceeds from which will go to the Red Cross’ disaster relief efforts in the suffering nation. (more…)

Here at Valve, we've always been consistently blown away by the creativity and generosity of the TF2 community -- through art contests, map making, item creating, or any one of the hundreds of other ways that you manage to impress us every day.

Today, we'd like to offer a chance to help out at a time when that help matters most. To support the relief efforts currently underway in Japan, we're introducing three limited edition hats and two special noisemakers to the Mann Co. store. The "Humanitarian's Hachimaki" ($7.99), the "Benefactor's Kanmuri" ($19.99) and the most prestigious "Magnanimous Monarch" ($99.99) will be available from now through April 6. All proceeds (net of applicable taxes) will go directly towards the Japanese disaster relief fund that the American Red Cross has set up. The hats can be equipped by all classes; however, they cannot be traded or used for crafting.

I have no idea what to make of this, other than happiness. With confusion. Someone has taken Heywood Banks‘ song Toast, clearly performed live on an American radio programme, and animated it in TF2, and stuck it on Break.com. It’s a year old, millions of people have already watched it. It’s old. Thing is, it’s funny. Thus: post.

As TF2 continues its transformation into a strange hybrid of Pokemon and ultra-death, another game has revealed exclooooosive in-game items for willing pre-orderers.

In this instance, it’s Total War: Shogun2 or Shotgun: Total War 2 or whatever the order is now. There are eight different hats to be had if you punt some money Steam’s way for CA’s upcoming RTS, and they’re available as of today. Looks like you can also buy them separately if you like, too. How many hats are in the game now? All the hats, I guess.

The latest patch for Team Fortress 2 is out, fixing one server crash exploit and added THREE new maps. Yes. But not made my Valve. No. Nightfall (seen above), Lakeside and Frontier are three accalimed community made maps, and if you’ll let me I’ll walk you through all three in turn. Nightfall by Aaron “Psy” Garcha is set in a lumber mill during a storm, just like Sawmill, though unlike Sawmill it’s a Payload Race map. What are the others? Just GIVE ME A MINUTE, wil you? We’ll get there. (more…)

We've been listening to our community's famished cries for content, and damn it, we decided to do something about it. Unfortunately, the button that bans everybody in the community at once doesn't seem to be working (every time we press it we just get sparks and the smell of burnt fur). So we went with our tried-and-true Plan B: an all-new map pack, featuring some community favorites including a new map from the guy behind cp_mountainlab, the winner of TF2Maps.net's Art Pass Contest.
