Through the destruction of a coveted item, one man is hoping to create something good for some children in need. That's the goal of Golden Charity, an initiative that will see one Team Fortress 2 player sacrifice his Golden Wrench in the name of Child's Play. If that ain't the utmost spirit of charity, then we're not sure what is.

WiNG, lucky recipient number 31 of Valve's gaudy gift, is soliciting donations until August 23, with the top 20 contributors receiving a front-row seat to the wrench's demise on August 31. When you think about it that way, it almost seems barbaric; all of these folks, sitting around, watching something perish. But it's in the name of charity, so we guess it all balances out in the end.

[Thanks, Anonymous]

#nom Technically not a recipe, this is more like cosplay for lunch. And it still doesn't solve the mystery of what "meat" is actually on Heavy's health-regenerating treat. But I do like the attention to detail, especially the cheese overhang. More »

I'M WORKING FOR JACK NOIR AND HIS STEAM GROUP NOW IF YOU WANT THE SERVER BACK YOU BETTER COME UP WITH A DAMN GOOD REASON

Download Custom Maps

PLEASE READ

Update for 7/12/10:

So as you may have noticed our server is going through some changes.

First off, as promised it is now public. This means random jerk offs can now join our server. If you encounter any problems with these people please alert me and I will do my best to deal with the issue. If it becomes too much of a problem I'll consider instituting some moderators, but for now that seems highly unnecessary.

You may also notice that all the maps in normal rotation are now now official maps sanctioned by Valve that come with TF2. I have done this for two reasons. For one it makes it far easier for everyone to get in; secondly they are usually enjoyable to actually play on and don't rely on gimmicks, however fun those gimmicks may be. The custom maps are still in our map list however, and they are easily accessible should we wish to use them.

I have also removed most of the gore mods because they were just kind of stupid and pointless. I have kept the Pre-game Mayhem, Bonusround Respawn, and Melee Sudden Death mods up because they don't effect gameplay for the most part and keep the server still a bit more loose than your standard straight tie bullshit servers. Also no one wants to play Sudden Death, so all the better.

Basically I'm taking steps to make the server more appealing overall, but also making it more appealing to regular TF2 players who don't yet visit Digibutter as well. I think this is an excellent opportunity to expand our community while simultaneously strengthening our current one.

That being said, the servers have been quite dead recently and I am taking these measures in an attempt to liven them up. If necessary I am more than willing to expand the server cap, but only if we are able to keep this 16 man server fairly active.

Let me make that abundantly clear.

This servers existence lives and dies by what happens this month. If it keeps a steady rate of activity, it stays; if it is mostly dead the entire month, it goes.

I am currently funding this server completely out of my pocket, and as much as I enjoy playing TF2 with you guys, at a point it seems like it would be stupid to continue funding an inactive server. I did this for the members of Digibutter to use as they please, so if you have any suggestions that would keep you coming back make sure to voice them.

P.S.: I'm always looking for more maps, but if you want something in please link it, especially if it is obscure. It saves me a lot of time that could go towards making the server more bad ass.

P.S.S.: I am also working on SaySounds this week so expect to be able to spam *crag*ing stupid one liners very shortly.

Current Plugins:

Melee Sudden Death

Pre-Game Mayhem

Bonusround Respawn

Rock the Vote (Comes with Sourcemod so ask someone how it works)

P.S.: I set the vote limit to 0 for rock the vote while I'm gone. Please don't abuse it.

Following its various stages of development, the Team Fortress 2 Engineer update is complete and its final addition has been revealed: The Gunslinger. It's a glove that gives the Engineer +25 extra health, a new combo attack and the ability to drop a mini-sentry, which Engies can build much faster than normal sentries, and for less metal. The update will automatically be applied the next time you boot up the game.

Aside from all of the Engineer upgrades, there are also three new maps to wage war on: Thunder Mountain, Hightower and Upward. Now go, go kill all of those evil [insert enemy team color here]s!

Say you have two things: a perfectly good hand, and a brilliant inventor for a grandfather. One day you stumble across a blueprint for an amazing-as-hell robot hand meant to replace an arm-stump. Wait, you have three things: the hand, the grandfather, and a saw.

With another 25 Golden Wrenches dispensed, more details about the upcoming Team Fortress 2 Engineer update have been announced. The latest insane tweak to Valve's ever-evolving multiplayer FPS: The Wrangler, a new weapon that allows the Engineer direct control over sentry guns. But why would you want to get your virtual hands dirty controlling sentry guns that do just fine by themselves? Well, "wrangled" sentries will have shields, double the firing rate, and their missile launch rate will increase at Level 3.

The TF2 site has also introduced a new Payload map called Upward. The mountaintop structure is nice looking, but not so nice looking that you'll feel bad about blowing it up.

Everyone loves remote control toys. But the problem with most of them is, unless you manage to remote control one directly down someone's throat, they're pretty useless as weapons. But what if we were to tell you that we fixed that obvious design flaw?

Starting this past weekend and running all the way until Thursday, Valve has been rewarding its craftiest Team Fortress 2 Engineers with an extremely rare item: A Golden Wrench. Only 100 of these pulchritudinous nut-tighteners will be received by players -- but for every 25 that are discovered, Valve promises to release new information on the Engineer Update, which is due to launch this Thursday.

So far, the 'neer's new gear includes a "Frontier Justice" shotgun, which has a higher critical hit chance if the player's Sentry Guns have been racking up kills. Keep an eye on the game's official blog for more armament announcements as the number of remaining Golden Wrenches further dwindles.

Those of you who spent the weekend Tokyo drift-racing your way to a rap battle—or whatever it is people do when they go outside on the weekend—probably feel pretty good about yourselves right now. At the end of the day, though, what do you have to show for it? Vague memories of changing lanes. Twenty-five of the people who wisely chose to stay home and craft items, on the other hand, now have shiny new ultra-rare golden wrenches that they can keep. For a weekend? No. For a lifetime. Eat it, drift-racers. Eat all of it.

If you think Team Fortress 2 is just a quality, team-based shooter, you'd be wrong. It's a quality, team-based shooter with a ton of lore building up behind it, and every update seems to bring a little more backstory and a little more meaning into the picture. Take, for example, this recently-released Engineer comic, which hints at two major updates to the Engineer class coming soon to the game. First, a metal called Australium, which has some special properties and a golden hue, and second, a life-extender machine which, you might guess, extends life.

And sure enough, players have found code in the game's most recent update that shows a "golden wrench" is indeed coming to the Engineer. This video shows that the golden/Australium wrench will freeze opponents in their path, turning them into gold on the spot, and this teaser video shows some other possible goodies due for the update as well. Leave it to Valve to turn a simple class deathmatch into a wild scavenger hunt for secret items and histories.
