I made a simple base before lagging out and trapping my self in virtual limbo while trying to fix it. In the end I gave up and disconnected.

It's an Alpha, so not yet.

minecraft has been in alpha forever and tons of people play it

It works, but the lag from it getting 3-8 connections a second is causing a few problems.
