I can get Windows 8 Pro for free as a Uni student, do I go for it?

If I had to pay I would probably just stick with Windows 7, but my Uni has access to a whole bunch of free Microsoft stuff so I can get it for free if I choose to, so I've been putting more thought into it. What are your thoughts - do I bother, or do I stick with what I've got?

No reason not to. I've been using the preview edition a little. Steam works fine. The grid/tablet interface looks nice, but I think for a regular laptop/desktop you'd eventually just make the regular desktop the default. Then it's no different than windows 7, but with some nice new touches.

I signed a pledge at the FSF telling people to upgrade to a free operating system. So go install Trisquel. Go do it.

Being free doesn't make it a good idea. I'm running on the assumption only Christians can go to hell, too, since only they believe in it.

nas the tiles layout is fine, it's basically a full-screen Start Button menu. Everything else is just like Windows 7 but with some nice new tweaks. Seems to run faster too. IE10 is surprisingly quick.
