So I found some giant mushrooms the size of watermelons in the forest yesterday. Too bad they were already rotting away otherwise I would have cooked and eaten them.

those kinds of mushrooms are common, i get them in my backyard sometimes
one of the trees in my backyard has a pretty huge but differently shaped mushroom growing on it

i was told those giant ball shaped mushrooms are poisonous though, so i wouldnt try eating them if i were you. if you gotta do some shrooms you should stick to things that are definetely not poisonous.

yeah, I should just stick to psilocybes

they're not poisonous though, check the wikipedia article I linked in the first post, they supposedly taste like tofu and/or cheese

besides, im sure it would be hard to find one that isnt rotting anyway. stuff that is just laying outside in the open isnt safe to eat
Reply by Nastasia Aug 30 2012 01:25 GMT

it's called washing nas, do you refuse to eat fruit too because it's grown outside? besides, cooking them eliminates all the bacteria.

thats not what i meant
would you eat a stick that was covered in bugs even if you washed it off
no you wouldnt
Reply by Nastasia Aug 30 2012 02:35 GMT
well nobody likes eating sticks nas

most farm grown fruit are covered in dirt and bugs though before you wash them, haven't you ever gone strawberry picking or anything like that?

oh tails pointed that out w/e

ugh its hard to get across what i mean
fruit and vegetables and other crops are grown in well maintained places and what they grow is known to be safe for eating, random mushrooms in a forest dont have any of that. many species of mushroom are poisonous to eat, and youll prolly find ones rotting like this a lot. and there is a way higher chance of getting a disease from eating something you just found in a forest that you aren't 100% sure what it is besides a mushroom and the condition of it
Reply by Nastasia Aug 30 2012 19:15 GMT
why am i having to explain this, i thought it was common knowledge to not eat random shit you find sitting outside (NO FOR THE LAST GOD DAMNED TIME I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT FRUITS LIKE APPLES AND STRAWBERRIES OR EVEN VEGETABLES THOSE ARE SAFE FOR EATING AND USUALLY GROWN BY PEOPLE AND ARE A THING PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT AND SAFE TO EAT SO SHUT UP ABOUT THEM holy shit)
Reply by Nastasia Aug 30 2012 19:16 GMT
what if they were farmed mushrooms, like the ones you see in grocery stores
ps: provolone mushrooms are the shit
Reply by Tails Doll Aug 30 2012 19:58 GMT
but nas what about truffles
Reply by weedlord bonerhitler Aug 30 2012 21:37 GMT

It's pretty safe if you positivley identify the species of mushroom and wash it before eating. I've eaten plenty of (identified, washed and/or cooked) wild berries and mushrooms and have never gotten sick from them. Besides, once you cook mushrooms it kills all the bacteria and even nullifies the mycotoxins of some of the poisonous species. Trust me, I know shrooms. My grandfather was a wild mushroom hunter.

i hate truffles
that amount of chocolate should not be consumed at one time by humans
honestly chocolate only works as flavoring for other kinds of food, like ice cream
