Square-Enix has been working on their next-generation Luminous engine for quite some time now. Their target with the new graphics engine is high-end gaming setups, consoles and portables included. While this engine seems to be targeted at the next-generation of consoles, Square-Enix was asked about support for the Wii and 3DS. Square Enix CTO Yoshihisa Hashimoto said that the company is looking into that support right now, but nothing was confirmed just yet.

Work on the Luminous Engine will continue into 2013, with a lot of elements being shown of in 2012. While Wii may end up missing out on this engine, 3DS and Wii U seem like they may benefit more.
