The other guy's thread seems to have sunk, so I'm gonna turn my server on for a bit. Connect at pipistrellus.dynalias.net (93.96.201.18:25565 if the first address doesn't work). It'll be up intermittently in the future.

coolio, my server was still up but the only people who can were random people who found the link on google, and your severs usually get the better turn out user-wise anyways.

My modem just had a heart attack and reset (among other things) the dynamic DNS settings, so I've updated the IP on the original post accordingly.

Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 12 2010 19:25 GMT
Thank you I was just about to ask you about that.
Reply by Super-Claus Nov 12 2010 19:27 GMT
Ok its still not working
Reply by Super-Claus Nov 12 2010 19:30 GMT
Try now.
Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 12 2010 19:30 GMT

END OF STREAM

that's all i get

Reply by THAT BOBZ GUY Nov 12 2010 19:33 GMT
Okay, I have no idea what causes an 'end of stream' error. Anybody have a clue why I'm getting this?
Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 12 2010 19:34 GMT

Make sure you router didn't auto close the ports and re-set up the firewalls after it crashed, mine will do that sometimes.

Reply by Super-Claus Nov 12 2010 19:35 GMT
OH WAIT ONE SOLUTION I JUST THOUGHT UP
IN THE SERVER PROPERTIES MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR LOCAL IP IN THE IP ADDRESS SPOT NOT YOUR OUTGOING IP
Reply by Super-Claus Nov 12 2010 19:37 GMT

I already reenabled that stuff, and when I did it changed from a timeout to end of stream. Edit: Ninja'd, I'll try the properties thing.

Turns out I didn't have the latest version of the server (I'd downloaded it onto my PC but not the laptop) *headdesk* Should work now.
Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 12 2010 19:50 GMT
Server's down for the night, I'll turn it on again some time tomorrow.
Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 12 2010 21:09 GMT

god damn timezones

if you don't leave it on at night not a lot of people are going to be able to visit

Reply by mariooooo Nov 12 2010 21:26 GMT
Don't worry bro my server is still up, and my kickass cannon house now comes with instructions
Reply by Super-Claus Nov 13 2010 00:46 GMT
@mariodude: Unless you can convince my parents to allow me to leave it on overnight there's not much I can do.
Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 13 2010 09:40 GMT
Server's back up!
Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 13 2010 11:51 GMT

There is now an auto-updating status image in the original post, which will update every 10 minutes. (Edit: It seems to be working occasionally but not always, but I'm not sure why)

Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 13 2010 13:34 GMT
I've been looking around the MC forums and have found a number of server hosts, but none that I can currently afford. So here's a hypothetical question for you guys: would you be willing to each contribute a small amount to pay for 24/7 hosting? (Not that I have any immediate plans to do something like this, I just wanted to see what kind of reaction it would get)
Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 13 2010 17:56 GMT

define, small ammount

Reply by mariooooo Nov 13 2010 17:58 GMT
Some of the servers start at around $10/month (plus setup fees), but the prices increase with more memory and power. (And before anybody says it: I could in theory pay for it myself, but this would leave me quite short of money - this might be different if I got myself a saturday job)
Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 13 2010 18:05 GMT
Minecraft.net's back online, so you should be able to get in now
Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 13 2010 20:13 GMT
Going down for the night again, hopefully there'll be more activity tomorrow.
Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 13 2010 21:10 GMT
I'm sure plenty of people here would host your server for free.
Reply by Super-Claus Nov 14 2010 03:05 GMT
but it would be no where near as good as a paid server
most computer hosted servers would probably be laggy as shit to the point where it wouldn't be enjoyable to play the game
Reply by Nastasia Nov 14 2010 03:23 GMT
Unless we connected our computers in a sort of network and divide up the server's processing needs between all of the computers on the network.
Reply by Super-Claus Nov 14 2010 13:41 GMT
Server's up again.
@Super-Dimento (Missing an I in dimentio there?): That may be possible using cloud computing, but it would almost cerainly require some form of specialised software to set up. I'll look into it though, see if I can find some answers.
Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 14 2010 15:21 GMT
@ gold were you not here when i joined in 08' and clearly stated that I knew that I was missing an "i" in the username and I explained that "Super-Dimentio" was already taken by an inactive user so I just got rid of the "i"
Reply by Super-Claus Nov 14 2010 15:25 GMT
I may have been around at the time, I'm just amazed that I hadn't noticed it before now.
Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 14 2010 15:45 GMT
Oh god I swear that said dimentio this entire time
*crag*
Reply by Nastasia Nov 14 2010 17:44 GMT

Server's up. Also, here's a map of the server for you (careful, it's big).

Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 15 2010 16:38 GMT

Is that a courthouse in the middle? I miss the old courthouse.

Reply by Linkshot Nov 16 2010 00:10 GMT
I remember when we had that big court case thing were the lava flooded the whole server.
Reply by Super-Claus Nov 16 2010 01:16 GMT
@Linkshot: I believe you're referring to my house.
Server's up by the way.

Getting the same thing.

Reply by Linkshot Nov 16 2010 21:40 GMT
Yeah, I turned it off and forgot to update the status in the post. It's back up now.
Reply by Gold Prognosticus Nov 17 2010 18:42 GMT

And down again.
